Company Description

For more than 20 years, KordaMentha has supported businesses through some of their most complex matters and opportunities. Founder owned and led; we are an advisory firm that helps corporations, financiers, lawyers, private investors and government clients to grow, protect and recover value.

That’s what we do, but it’s how we do this that makes us who we are.

Proudly independent, strategically local, and with a bias for action to get things done, we focus on doing what is right by our clients, our people, and the wider community. Our track record shows that we help navigate the best path forward in challenging times, and do so across cities, regions and territories.

In the most stressful or demanding environments, we continue to drive change where it really counts.

Job Description

Australia’s energy system is undergoing one of the most significant transitions in a generation. At KordaMentha, our Energy Advisory team helps clients move from intent to execution, supporting organisations across strategy, investment, regulation, operating models, technology, performance improvement and delivery.

We are looking for an Analyst to join our growing Energy Advisory team and work alongside experienced energy experts on practical, outcome-focused engagements across Australia’s changing energy market.

This is an opportunity to build your advisory career in a team that works with energy consumers, providers, infrastructure owners, government, regulators and adjacent critical infrastructure sectors. You will help clients navigate complex market dynamics, including growing energy demand, decarbonisation, decentralisation, energy infrastructure needs, policy and regulatory change, and emerging technology.

In this role, you will:

  • Support client engagements through research, analysis, problem solving and the preparation of high-quality reports, presentations and client deliverables.
  • Apply quantitative and qualitative analysis to help solve complex commercial, regulatory, operational and technology problems.
  • Research energy industry trends, market reform and emerging practice, while building depth in one or more energy domains.
  • Work directly with clients and stakeholders, building strong working relationships and contributing to practical outcomes.
  • Use tools, including AI, to improve the quality and efficiency of your work, with the judgement to review and validate outputs.
  • Support business development, proposals, marketing activities and industry engagement.

Qualifications

You will bring a strong interest in the energy and utilities sector, a curious mindset and the motivation to build your advisory career. You may have gained early experience in consulting, advisory, professional services, government, infrastructure or an in-house energy team, ideally with exposure to energy or broader infrastructure.

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Around 1 year of relevant experience, or equivalent exposure, in energy, utilities, infrastructure, consulting, advisory, government or a related environment.
  • A developing understanding of one or more energy and utility sectors, such as generation, networks, retail, gas or water.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down information and identify key issues.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to contribute to team discussions and client deliverables.
  • Competency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, with a willingness to continue developing these skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, initiative and the ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • A proactive, practical and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Empathy, integrity, curiosity, a willingness to learn quickly and openness to feedback.

You may not tick every box, and that’s okay. If you meet most of the criteria and are excited by the opportunity to build your advisory career while contributing to Australia’s energy transition, we would like to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
