AI-Native Product Engineer

Melbourne VIC

Full-time

Phantm is looking for an exceptional AI-Native Product Engineer to help accelerate the next stage of our product and business.

This is not a traditional developer role. We want someone who can design, build and ship across the full stack, using modern AI-native tools to operate with the speed and output of a small team.

You will work directly with the founders and customer engagement team to turn customer feedback, commercial insight and industry knowledge into a live product quickly. The goal is simple: compress feature cycles from months into days and weeks.

If you are already building this way, and have the shipped work to prove it, we would like to hear from you.

About the role

You will take ownership of product implementation across the platform, helping us evolve and accelerate what already exists.

This role suits someone who is highly capable technically, commercially aware, visually strong, and excited by the idea of building fast in a real business environment where customer need is clear and product impact is immediate.

You will be expected to:

  • Own end-to-end product implementation across frontend, backend and data layer

  • Work directly with the founders and customer engagement team to translate market feedback and operational insight into shipped features

  • Rapidly prototype, refine and release product improvements

  • Help create a dynamic where a customer conversation today can become a working feature tomorrow

  • Maintain and evolve the existing platform, not rebuild it, but materially accelerate it

  • Build internal tools, dashboards and interfaces that make complex data tangible for customers

  • Improve speed, usability and product clarity across the platform

  • Use AI-native development tools as part of your daily workflow to increase output and reduce cycle time

Where you are likely to be

This role is likely to suit someone in the following range:

  • Around 2–4 years into their career, with strong full-stack capability and clear evidence they can ship quickly and independently

  • Or at an earlier stage, but already showing unusual speed, product instinct and fluency with AI-native tooling

We are less interested in polished corporate CVs and more interested in people who can actually build.

You are likely to bring:

  • Strong capability in React / Next.js and Python or Node.js

  • Daily hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, v0, or similar

  • A portfolio of shipped products, features or tools

  • Strong product instinct and a good design eye — you can make things work well and look good

  • The confidence to work independently and make sound decisions without excessive structure

  • The ability to work closely with founders, understand commercial priorities, and turn them into product quickly

It would also be valuable if you have exposure to:

  • Sustainability

  • Supply chain systems

  • Compliance or reporting data

  • B2B SaaS platforms

What will make you a strong fit

You are probably someone who:

  • Builds quickly, but with sound judgement

  • Is comfortable being the only technical person in the room

  • Can move between product, engineering and customer context with ease

  • Likes momentum, ownership and visible impact

  • Thinks in outcomes, not tickets

  • Uses AI tools natively, not experimentally

  • Wants to help shape a business, not just complete a backlog

What this role is not

This is not the right role for:

  • A senior architect looking to redesign everything from scratch

  • Someone who needs a product manager to define each task

  • A pure frontend or pure backend specialist without full-stack range

  • Someone who is still only exploring AI tooling at the edges of their workflow

Why Join Us

Phantm is a climate-technology company collecting, enriching, and repurposing, fractured, complex packaging data, turning data about materials, mass and movement into structured, actionable intelligence for reporting, compliance, and smarter decision-making.

You will join at a point where customer demand, product need and market timing are all converging.

This is an opportunity to help build a platform solving real-world data problems in complex supply chains, with direct exposure to founders, customers and live commercial outcomes. Your work will not disappear into a large organisation, it will be seen, used and valued immediately.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
