Profile Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience working as a tax accountant or in a similar accounting/bookkeeping role within a professional environment
  • Advanced proficiency in Xero accounting software, with strong ability to manage full bookkeeping functions and reporting (Xero certification preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Australian taxation legislation, including GST, BAS preparation, payroll compliance, and ATO lodgement requirements
  • Hands-on experience with payroll processing, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes across multiple entities
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to identify and correct discrepancies in financial records
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for reporting, data analysis, and financial tracking
  • Flexible and adaptable with willingness to assist in general office administration tasks and support broader team operations when required
  • Windows OS prefer (virtual drive only works in Windows)

Core responsibilities:

  • Prepare and lodge a range of tax returns including individual, sole trader, company, trust, and partnership returns in compliance with ATO requirements
  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping in Xero, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
  • Process BAS, IAS, and GST reporting accurately and ensure all submissions are completed within statutory deadlines
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and reconciliations
  • Assist with payroll processing, superannuation obligations, Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting, and end-of-period reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end processes, including preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
  • Provide general administrative assistance such as data entry, scanning, filing, and maintaining organised digital and physical records
  • Communicate with clients, the ATO, and third parties to resolve queries, gather documentation, and ensure compliance across all accounting matters
