Profile Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience working as a tax accountant or in a similar accounting/bookkeeping role within a professional environment
- Advanced proficiency in Xero accounting software, with strong ability to manage full bookkeeping functions and reporting (Xero certification preferred)
- Strong knowledge of Australian taxation legislation, including GST, BAS preparation, payroll compliance, and ATO lodgement requirements
- Hands-on experience with payroll processing, financial reporting, and reconciliation processes across multiple entities
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to identify and correct discrepancies in financial records
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Competent in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for reporting, data analysis, and financial tracking
- Flexible and adaptable with willingness to assist in general office administration tasks and support broader team operations when required
- Windows OS prefer (virtual drive only works in Windows)
Core responsibilities:
- Prepare and lodge a range of tax returns including individual, sole trader, company, trust, and partnership returns in compliance with ATO requirements
- Manage full-cycle bookkeeping in Xero, including bank reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
- Process BAS, IAS, and GST reporting accurately and ensure all submissions are completed within statutory deadlines
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, including invoice processing, payment tracking, and reconciliations
- Assist with payroll processing, superannuation obligations, Single Touch Payroll (STP) reporting, and end-of-period reconciliations
- Support month-end and year-end processes, including preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules
- Provide general administrative assistance such as data entry, scanning, filing, and maintaining organised digital and physical records
- Communicate with clients, the ATO, and third parties to resolve queries, gather documentation, and ensure compliance across all accounting matters
