Senior Search Engineer responsible for maintaining and scaling Xero’s global search platform, supporting hundreds of millions of documents with 99.9% uptime. The role includes contributing to a multi-year platform rebuild, developing search capabilities, collaborating on ingestion pipelines, reviewing code, leading projects, and partnering with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams. Experience with production search systems and strong software engineering fundamentals is required; data or AI tooling experience is advantageous.

Leads ML and platform engineering teams building scalable, production-grade machine learning infrastructure. Responsibilities include coaching engineers, guiding architecture and engineering trade-offs, improving MLOps maturity and observability, translating business goals into delivery plans, managing roadmaps, maintaining system health, and supporting production incidents through code review, debugging, or hands-on development. The role supports AI products including conversational GenAI, automated bank reconciliation, document capture, and cash-flow forecasting.

The Engineering Manager will lead software delivery teams, champion AI workflows, resolve technical challenges, and enhance engineering practices to meet business goals.
