Design, model, optimise, prototype, align, and characterise optical and electro-optical imaging systems for autonomous sensing platforms. Responsibilities include optical tolerancing, sensitivity analysis, stray-light and ghost analysis, component selection, optomechanical integration, image-quality optimisation, manufacturing transition, and collaboration with machine-learning and computer-vision teams. The role requires hands-on optical engineering experience and eligibility for an Australian Defence security clearance.

Develop and deploy computer vision and machine learning models for real-time airborne object detection on edge hardware. Responsibilities include improving ETL processes, organising datasets, training neural networks with PyTorch and related libraries, optimising models, conducting code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, documenting systems, and supporting the full ML lifecycle from research through deployment.

Provides scientific and technical leadership for AI-powered sensing and autonomous defence technologies. Defines research roadmaps, identifies emerging technologies, develops and tests concepts through modelling, experimentation, prototyping and field trials, and transitions research into deployable systems. Leads multidisciplinary teams across optics, sensing, AI/ML, signal processing, physics, autonomy, electronics and systems engineering while engaging customers, universities and industry partners. Builds intellectual property and communicates complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
