The Technical Writer is responsible for producing clear, accurate, and structured documentation that supports the planning, delivery, and operational handover of IT projects. This role ensures that technical information from diverse teams is captured, standardised, and communicated effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. By creating high-quality documentation, the Technical Writer enables project teams, end-users, and business units to understand, implement, and maintain IT solutions efficiently, while contributing to consistent knowledge management and process improvement across the organisation. This is a 4 month initial engagement with potential of extension. NV1 Clearance is required for this role.
Requirements
What you'll do:
- Deliver high-quality technical documentation to support IT projects, including solution designs, implementation guides, and operational handover materials.
- Work closely with engineers, architects, and project teams to translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation.
- Develop and maintain project artefacts such as SOPs, runbooks, knowledge base articles, and user guides.
- Support project delivery by ensuring documentation is completed in line with timelines, milestones, and governance requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers and PMO to ensure documentation aligns with project scope, standards, and deliverables.
- Participate in workshops and technical discussions to capture requirements, decisions, and key outputs.
- Review, edit, and standardise documentation to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality across all project deliverables.
- Manage version control and document repositories, ensuring artefacts are up to date and accessible.
- Support cutover and transition activities by producing clear handover documentation for BAU teams and end users.
- Identify gaps in documentation and proactively work with stakeholders to address them.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of documentation standards, templates, and processes within the PMO.
What you'll bring:
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer within IT projects, ideally in an MSP or consulting environment.
- Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and structured documentation.
- Experience working with cross-functional technical teams, including infrastructure, cloud, security, and applications.
- Demonstrated experience producing project documentation such as HLDs/LLDs, SOPs, runbooks, and user guides.
- Excellent written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple documentation streams across concurrent projects.
- Familiarity with documentation tools and platforms (e.g. Confluence, SharePoint, document management systems).
- Understanding of project delivery frameworks and PMO governance.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and adapt in fast-paced project environments.
- A proactive mindset with a focus on quality, consistency, and delivering great project outcomes.
