The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the legal compliance of the self-insured workers' compensation program. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, analysing data, and developing case managers.

Responsibilities and duties

Claims Management:
  • Oversee the processing and management of workers' compensation claims in accordance with the law and the principles of administrative justice and sound and proper decision making.
Decision Making:
  • Utilise analytical skills and industry knowledge to make sound and proper liability decisions and manage the appeals process.
Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Data Analysis:
  • Analyse claims data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for management on key metrics.
Procedure Development:
  • Develop and implement procedures related to evidence gathering, assessment and decision making, promoting best practices in claims handling.
Stakeholder Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on technical matters relating to claims.
Training and Education:
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on workers' compensation processes, regulations, and practices.

Required skills, experience and qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in legal process, business administration, insurance, or a related field desirable.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in workers' compensation, preferably in a self-insured environment. Management experience is a plus.
Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations is essential.
