The Opportunity

Join KBR’s Land Engineering Agency as a Technical Advisor with Configuration Management responsibilities, supporting the full lifecycle of Australia’s heavy armoured capability. In this role, you will provide authoritative technical advice while ensuring effective configuration control and data management across complex Defence programs. Your work will underpin maintenance planning, capability upgrades, and operational readiness, directly contributing to the sustainment and performance of the Australian Army’s armoured fleet.

Working within a multidisciplinary Defence environment, you will act as a trusted technical ambassador, delivering expert guidance to enhance engineering quality, drive innovation, and align outcomes with Defence objectives. This position suits an experienced trade-qualified technician who can balance technical leadership with hands-on configuration management, enabling informed decision-making and ensuring long-term capability readiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply advanced engineering principles and independently solve complex engineering problems under general supervision.
  • Represent KBR at technical conferences, working groups, and engagements, negotiating with key engineers and officials to resolve critical project issues.
  • Provide high-level technical guidance to designers and less-experienced engineers, offering trusted interpretations, advice, and direction.
  • Manage comprehensive configuration control processes throughout their lifecycle, including baseline establishment, change management, and audit support.
  • Oversee vehicle technical data packages, configuration records, and maintenance history to support sustainment and upgrade activities.
  • Utilise Configuration Management Tools (CMT), Asset Maintenance Planning System (AMPS), and stock control systems (SCPM) to maintain accurate asset and configuration data.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, sustainment, logistics, and operational teams to ensure configuration data validates vehicle readiness and supports Defence operational requirements.
  • Conduct configuration audits and verification activities to ensure compliance with Defence Configuration Management standards and Land Systems policies.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance data accuracy, reporting capabilities, and overall configuration management processes.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • Hold technical trade qualification or degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Defence-related experience in data and configuration management, preferably within the Land Systems Division.
  • Prior experience working on heavy armoured vehicles is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills, stakeholder engagement experience, and a proven ability to guide and influence technical teams.
  • Deep knowledge of Defence Configuration Management frameworks and Land Systems Branch policies, with a clear understanding of vehicle lifecycle sustainment.
  • Demonstrated experience using Configuration Management tools such as CMT‑L, Teamcenter, or ERP systems (JIRA experience is desirable).
  • Well-developed analytical and documentation skills, including experience managing Technical Data Packages (TDPs), configuration audits, and sustainment records.
  • Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary Defence project and sustainment teams.
  • Minimum AGSVA NV1 Security Clearance and Australian citizenship required to be eligible.

Why you’ll enjoy being part of our team:

  • A workplace culture certified as a Great Place to Work.
  • Flexible working.
  • Competitive salary (including annual reviews).
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Income protection.
  • Corporate rewards.
  • Salary packaging/Novated leasing.
  • Employee stock purchase plans.
  • Flu shots, skin checks and discounted private health insurance.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
