About the role

Join our high-performing Taxation team and play a key role in supporting the tax function across WestConnex and the broader Transurban Group. We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Tax Consultant to join us on a 6 months fixed-term contract, contributing to critical tax compliance and tax advisory activities.

Reporting to the Head of Tax – WestConnex, you will support senior team members across a wide range of tax matters, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong governance. You will collaborate closely with Finance, Legal and Commercial teams as well as external advisers to deliver high-quality tax outcomes.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Prepare tax compliance and reporting documents, including income tax returns, tax effect accounting calculations, BAS and FBT returns

  • Prepare quarterly and annual trust distribution calculations

  • Liaise with Finance and external advisers to meet tax compliance and reporting requirements

  • Support the Head of Tax – WestConnex to ensure all tax obligations are completed accurately and on time

  • Conduct research on tax implications of transactions and projects

  • Assist with preparing tax technical papers

  • Assist with the review of legal contracts and financial models and advise on tax considerations and implications

  • Ensure all project work is supported by appropriate documentation and governance

This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:

  • Tertiary qualification in commerce, law, or accounting

  • Professional taxation experience, ideally in a Big 4 or mid-tier firm, or an in-house corporate tax team

  • Strong technical knowledge of tax effect accounting and reporting

  • Experience using CCH Integrator (advantageous)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • High degree of initiative, analytical capability, and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and multiple tasks

What you’ll bring to the team

You’re proactive, curious, and committed to delivering high-quality tax outcomes. You enjoy solving complex problems, working with diverse stakeholders, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. You thrive in dynamic environments and bring a strong sense of ownership to your work.

Please note this is a 6 month Fixed Term Contract from the successful candidates start date

With a career at Transurban, you’ll enjoy:

  • A range of flexible working and leave options, including the ability to purchase up to six weeks of additional leave

  • 16 weeks paid parental leave (regardless of gender or carer status), with superannuation paid during unpaid leave

  • Learning and development opportunities to support your career growth

  • Health and wellbeing support—access to Headspace, EAP, wellness facilities, and more

  • Share offers and insurance benefits

  • Social activities, community programs, and paid volunteer days

  • We offer flexibility so you can balance work and life commitments. Talk to us about what flexibility could look like for you.

Our commitment to inclusion

We embrace diversity with a foundation of safety, wellbeing, and inclusion—where everyone belongs. We treat everyone with fairness and respect, regardless of gender, identity, family status, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity, beliefs, background, or lived experience.

We strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people living with disability, and candidates from diverse backgrounds.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
