Role Summary

The main tasks of the Systems Planning Engineer will include interconnection studies, injection studies, load flow studies, dynamic and transient studies, feasibility studies, and power system modelling and analysis, using software such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, etc.
Working in collaboration with the system studies experts to prepare deliverables in the following fields:

  • Power system studies
  • Python scripting for system study automation.
  • Data collection, model development, simulations, analysis, reporting and presentations to Clients.
  • Transient studies including Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV), insulation coordination and harmonics.
  • Feasibility and Techno-economic studies (lines, substation, generation)
  • HVDC, FACTS and renewable energy (wind, solar) system design and studies, including dynamic simulations, parameter setting and preparation of specifications.
  • Design studies (such as grounding, lightning, EMF/EMI, audible noise, cable sizing)
  • Site visits to measure audible noise, ground resistance, harmonics and electromagnetic fields data.
  • Support the business development team (proposals, presentations, strategy)
     

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, from a recognised institution
  • Demonstrated experience, particularly in modeling and simulations of power systems, and writing reports;
  • Proficiency in the following software tools (an asset): PSS®E, PSCAD, Python Scripting, PSLF, EMTP-RV, DigSilent
  • Exceptional academic, extracurricular and professional record
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a focus achieving results
  • Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
