The Opportunity:

KBR’s Land Systems Division continues to expand, and we are seeking a Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Armoured Fighter Vehicle Branch within the Heavy Armoured SPO (HASPO).

This role provides a rare opportunity to work at the centre of Australia’s heavy armoured vehicle capability, contributing to the sustainment and upgrade of platforms such as the M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank, Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle, Armoured Recovery Vehicles, and other specialist heavy vehicle fleets.

You will work within a multidisciplinary engineering team under the Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) framework, providing systems engineering expertise across the capability lifecycle. This includes support to design assurance, integration of new technologies, fleet sustainment, and capability upgrades across some of the Australian Army’s most complex and mission-critical platforms.

All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Apply systems engineering principles across the platform lifecycle, from requirements development and design assurance through to verification and validation.
  • Support the preparation and review of Technical Investigations, Engineering Support Reports, Safety Cases, and Technical Instructions.
  • Contribute to engineering design reviews, risk management, and configuration/change control activities for heavy armoured platforms.
  • Assist in the integration of subsystems across mobility, lethality, protection, survivability, and digital C4I domains.
  • Develop and maintain System Engineering Management Plans, Test & Evaluation documentation, and certification artefacts.
  • Work closely with Army stakeholders, industry partners, and suppliers to ensure solutions meet operational and sustainment requirements.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers as required.

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Systems, Electrical, Mechatronics or related discipline).
  • Experience in systems engineering within Defence programs (land domain highly regarded).
  • Practical knowledge of requirements management, risk management, configuration management, and V&V processes.
  • Exposure to armoured vehicle systems (weapons, sensors, survivability systems, powertrain, mobility or digital communications) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ASDEFCON, AEO frameworks, and Defence acquisition & sustainment processes.
  • Current or eligibility to hold an NV1 AGSVA Security Clearance.

All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active NV1 Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a NV1 Clearance or above should apply.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
