From take-off to landing, Thales offers the most complete range of solutions to provide dynamic Air Traffic Services to support today's growing domestic and international travel requirements. Utilising this knowledge and experience Thales Australia will deliver a harmonised Civil/Military Air Traffic Management System (CMATS / OneSKY) in Australia to Airservices Australia and Defence.
This will enable a new level of safety and efficiency, while also reducing delays for the travelling public and providing opportunities to improve environmental outcomes. OneSKY will transform Australia’s sky and we are proud to be partners in its delivery.
The role
The Systems Architect is a key role for the OneSKY project and as part of Systems Solution Architecture team, will help to define and deliver a state-of-the-art Air Traffic Solution. This is a front facing role and requires direct engagement with our Customer and key internal senior stakeholders.
The role is responsible for defining, stabilising and maintaining the solution architecture for bids and projects for all lifecycle phases, it includes:
- Defining and proposing innovative technical solutions that meet customer requirements and are compliant with the business’ product/system technical strategy
- Analysing the architectural and technical choices to ensure the best trade-off between customer requirements, technical solutions, cost and risk.
This position is based at Melbourne World Trade Centre.
Some key responsibilities:
- Lead working groups conducting technical arbitration between Subsystems and Security teams and the constraints they place on the system design.
- Key contact with the customer on technical issues including evolutions to the solution baseline.
- Responsible for stabilising and maintaining the solution architecture throughout its lifecycle in cooperation with the SEMs and PDA
- Ensure the solution architecture is optimised to address the real need through:
- Bringing to the foreground the key architectural drivers
- Exploring the solution space to define a set of alternate candidate architectural concepts and perform related trade-offs ensuring all design alternatives are recorded and decisions justified
- Perform early validation of the architecture including modelling and proof of concept activities to de-risk
- Develop Architectural Viewpoints to:
- Define the system breakdown
- Lead the interface definition and arbitrate technically between the various contributors (whether internal or external)
- Describe the system behaviour through functional flows and identifying dependencies between system components
On day one you will come with:
- The ability to obtain Australian defence clearance
- 10+ years’ experience in similar positions on projects delivering complex software-centric real-time systems.
- Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and architectural frameworks e.g. Arcadia and NAF (mandatory)
- Demonstrated experience in the design of secure solution architectures in line with security standards and policies eg. ISM
- Experience with collective decisions and conflict resolutions
- Capability to manage various stakeholders having different objectives
- Proven capability to work in a multi-cultural environment and with variety of international customers
