Requirements
What you'll do:
- Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide expert advice in software systems engineering for the LAND 4140 BMS project.
- Operate within a sophisticated systems-of-systems environment involving networking, radio systems and electro-mechanical systems.
- Develop engineering plans and designs that integrate with other engineering disciplines.
Collaborate with system architects and engineering management to design and specify software-related engineering artefacts. - Support the Engineering Manager in developing engineering work packages aligned to capability scope and Defence requirements.
- Contribute to capability definition documents, management plans, architectures, systems integration specifications, test plans, procedures and reports.
- Provide systems/software engineering expertise across engineering, project management and commercial functions.
- Ensure safety considerations and technical regulatory requirements are embedded in all software engineering activities.
- Identify, assess and resolve system/software engineering issues, advising leadership on suitable courses of action.
- Exercise delegated engineering authorities and technical regulatory responsibilities when assigned.
- Build strong relationships and effectively influence stakeholders and subject matter experts to achieve project outcomes.
- Interpret and comply with Defence legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks.
- Deliver accurate, high-quality work within defined timeframes as part of an integrated, matrixed Defence workforce.
- Support integration, testing and evaluation of COTS and FMS software across multiple host environments (SOE / VM).
What you'll bring:
- Degree in Engineering (electronics, computer, communications, networking or similar), recognised under the Washington Accord.
- 8+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years in systems/software engineering.
- Current NV1 (minimum) security clearance.
- Demonstrated experience delivering systems/software engineering across multiple program phases.
- Experience within CASG or a similar Defence acquisition environment.
- Strong capability in DevSecOps, SDLC, and software integration practices.
- Experience analysing, designing, reviewing and producing high-quality engineering documentation for Government approvals.
- Ability to work independently across diverse and complex technical tasks.
- Experience managing technical and integration risks in challenging environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across complex Defence ecosystems.
- Experience with communications-related software and associated enabling services/infrastructure.
- Skilled in applying testing and evaluation techniques across the system development lifecycle.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including advanced technical writing.
- Commitment to continuous learning and awareness of industry developments.
- Proven ability to plan, execute and evaluate work to meet time, cost and quality targets while managing risk.
Highly Regarded:
- Deep understanding of DevSecOps and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
- Experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with Linux-based operating systems.
- Prior experience in Defence CASG engineering or project environments.
- Postgraduate qualifications in software engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience in pre-acquisition activities including design, development and tender evaluations.
- Experience with operational military communications and ICT systems.
- Knowledge of ICT, cyber security, ILS processes and Defence engineering standards.
- Experience with systems safety and cyber security.
- Knowledge of ADF Land Domain tactical communications and ICT technologies.
