About the role
You will lead Halter’s sustainability strategy in New Zealand and Australia to drive maximum commercial impact. Your work will help propel our growth, will enhance our brand, and drive competitive advantages. You’ll work closely with leading organisations in the ecosystem that have deep interests in backing efficient pasture-based farming, to unlock major commercial opportunities. You’ll develop and market compelling value propositions in sustainability by bridging between customers, our product and marketing teams, and independent research partners (universities, environmental experts etc.). You’ll coordinate pioneering, independent scientific research on value propositions in sustainability. A self-starter attitude is crucial for this role. You will be a significant contributor to the growth and success of Halter in New Zealand and Australia, delivering change for an industry.
This role will be based in Auckland but require travel around New Zealand and Australia.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the sustainability strategy for Halter in New Zealand and Australia for maximum commercial impact.
- Work closely with leading organisations in the ecosystem that have deep interests in backing efficient pasture-based farming, to unlock major commercial opportunities. Build relationships and influence with key stakeholders in sustainability and policy in these organisations.
- Develop and market compelling value propositions in sustainability by bridging between customers, our marketing teams, and research partners.
- Lead Halter’s strategy for carbon credit programs to tap into available funding and subsidies while managing our positioning in market.
- Establish and manage a network of expert advisors and key opinion leaders on sustainability in agriculture. Work with public agencies and private organizations to influence the policy direction and funding of sustainability practices that virtual fencing can qualify for.
- Lead the strategy for university research collaboration on sustainability value propositions to drive competitive advantages.
- Drive awareness of Halter’s sustainability value propositions. Translate technical sustainability work into compelling case studies and materials to drive strategic commercial value.
- Partner with farmers to create case studies of sustainability value propositions and present at conferences and industry events to increase awareness of Halter’s value propositions and impact.
- You will manage Halter’s internal business sustainability program and support our Finance team with periodic analysis and reporting on sustainability for our NZ and AUS businesses. You will lead on sustainability projects for our NZ and AUS business aligned with our sustainability strategy.

- Experience delivering value in sustainability. You’re deeply knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability - a bonus if this is in farming. You have examples of delivering tangible, commercial value for sustainability. You are highly adept at bridging between the science, the commercial application of the science, farmers, and with organisations in the ecosystem. You have a track record of being strategic and also super clinical at delivering value by being highly analytical, pragmatic and taking a hands-on approach. You have examples of navigating complex topics efficiently to cut through and deliver impact. You are curious and methodical.
- Influencer - You’re an influential communicator and presenter. You have examples of conveying complex technical topics with clarity for commercial impact. You have examples of presenting effectively to mainstream audiences on topics in sustainability. You’re an exceptional listener. You have high emotional intelligence and self-awareness. You’re a ‘super collaborator’, with evidence of partnering effectively with a wide range of people and disciplines. You build rapport and trust with people naturally.
- Proactive & self-directed - You have a proven track record of working in a highly self-directed, proactive, resourceful way. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and with juggling and delivering on multiple priorities in tandem. You approach challenges with a “can-do” attitude. You are driven to deliver value. Your ambition and growth mindset is matched by your genuine humility.
