Your New Role and Responsibilities

We're seeking an experienced Project Manager to support a multi-year Defence program delivering an enterprise Health Knowledge Management (HKM) System to improve clinical decision-making for the ADF.

As Subcontracts Program Manager, you’ll ensure supplier performance aligns with contract requirements, quality standards, and program timelines. You’ll work closely with the Subcontracts Commercial Manager and Solution Lead to integrate supplier efforts and deliver the HKM System.

Using your Defence experience, you’ll mentor suppliers to operate effectively within Defence frameworks and drive successful program outcomes. You’ll also lead the delivery of the Australian Industrial Capability (AIC) Plan, working alongside the Program Manager to maximise local industry involvement and economic benefit throughout the program’s life cycle.

Key Responsibilities: -

  • Assess and verify supplier capabilities, performance, and compliance with contractual requirements.

  • Manage supplier communication, issue escalation, and status reporting to Program leadership.

  • Oversee supplier cost, schedule, technical, and quality baselines, identifying risks and performance gaps.

  • Support subcontract changes and provide recommendations on supplier contract modifications.

  • Lead planning and execution of the Australian Industrial Capability (AIC) Plan, including reporting and Local Industry Activity outcomes.

  • Engage with Australian industry to identify, assess, and advocate for local suppliers and innovation opportunities throughout the program lifecycle.

What You’ll Bring to Make An Impact

  • Proven experience applying project management methodologies (e.g. PMI, Agile, PRINCE2).

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Solid technical understanding to evaluate supplier deliverables and contribute to technical discussions and documentation.

  • Knowledge of subcontracting principles, including finance, contract types, scheduling, and earned value management.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; Defence sector experience is highly regarded.

Don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application.  We’re most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold Baseline security clearance.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
