The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology, and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security, and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.

You’ll be part of the ‘Digital Customer Journey Squad’ in the Commodities, Trade & Carbon (CTC) crew. The Crew works with CBA's domestic and international trade and supply chain finance customers, providing specialist trade products and services to our Business and Institutional Banking customers. The squad's purpose is to provide leading digital experiences through safe, stable, scalable, and resilient platforms.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the team, working within a cross-functional squad responsible for the technical design, development, and rollout of CTC customer experiences through CBA’s CommBiz 2.0.   We are looking for someone to join our team who is passionate about creating transformative digital experiences who thrives in a collaborative environment and is constantly pushing the boundaries to help deliver outcomes that define future industry trends.

We’re interested in hearing from people who:

  • Leads the front-end development: implement scalable, high-performance front-end solutions and ensuring smooth integration using backend for Frontend APIs and Service Domain models.

  • Ensures performance and scalability: focus on optimizing the front-end platform for scalability and performance. Continuously refine and improve the platform’s architecture to support a growing number of users and complex features.

  • Maintains security best practices: implement security best practices in the platform ensuring robust protection against vulnerabilities and maintaining compliance with industry standards.

  • Builds CI/CD pipeline with GitHub Actions: build and maintain GitHub Actions pipelines for continuous integration and deployment, enabling fast and reliable feature delivery with minimal friction.

  • Performs code reviews: review code submitted by other engineers, ensuring adherence to best practices, platform standards, and security guidelines. Provide constructive feedback and encourage continuous learning and improvement.

  • Collaborates on architecture: lead discussions and decision-making on architecture with a team of passionate engineers. Be receptive to new ideas while maintaining a strong vision for the platform.

  • Delivers impactful solutions: take ownership of key technical decisions and work with other engineers to ensure the platform is delivering value, address blockers and help solve complex problems.

  • Mentors and guides engineers: provide mentorship and guidance to team members, helping them develop their technical skills while maintaining a focus on quality, scalability, and performance.

  • Drives cross-functional collaboration: work closely with product managers, designers, and back-end engineers to deliver features and improvements aligned with business objectives.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • Frontend - Next.js, React.js

  • Backend - .NET Core, C#, ASP.NET, Spring Boot

  • Expertise with Microservices, Restful API design pattern

  • DevOps and CI/CD - GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Grafana, Prometheus

  • AWS Cloud - EC2, SNS, S3, Lambda, Certification is a must

  • Any experience with the following would be great - AI & Machine learning, LLM, Redux, Kafka, Banking domain
