Job Description
The Team
Part of SEEK’s Engineering Platforms group, the Developer Experience team aims to optimise the experience of software engineering at SEEK. They design, develop and support tools that allow engineers to rapidly create and support systems in compliance with SEEK’s standards and guidelines, including:
Interfaces for Engineering Platform: Developer Experience is responsible for providing the main interfaces through which engineers interact with SEEK’s Engineering Platform, including a CLI tool for interacting with our Kubernetes-based Internal Development Platform and Backstage.
Tooling for System Creation and Understanding: Developer Experience offers tools that assist engineers in creating new systems, understanding existing ones, and integrating various aspects of SEEK’s Engineering Platform.
Guidance on High-Quality Developer Experience: Developer Experience provides guidance on what constitutes a high-quality developer experience. This guidance ensures that the tools and practices used across SEEK are consistent with the company’s overall approach.
Consistency Across Tools and Practices: Ensuring that the tooling and practices provided by other teams, particularly within Engineering Platforms, are aligned with Developer Experience’s standards to maintain a cohesive experience for SEEK’s engineers.
The Role
As a Staff Engineer in Developer Experience team you will:

Build and operate highly scalable and performant software in alignment with SEEK’s technology strategy.

Improve platform health, ensuring that our systems are, reliable, resilient, and efficient according to SEEK development practices.

Lead, coach, and mentor Software Engineers to foster a culture of technical perfection.

Ensure platform health for services owned are aligned to SEEK’s technical metrics goals.

Improve Agile delivery practices through collaboration with the Engineering Manager and Business Analyst.

Act as a developer advocate, building relationships with other engineering teams to ensure the right problems are addressed.
Additional Information:
We are building an Internal Developer Platform on top of Kubernetes. Central to developer experience of this platform is a CLI tool written in Typescript.
Key technologies for the platform include AWS EKS, Istio, Argo CD, Buildkite, Pagerduty and Datadog.We’re looking for someone with a strong conceptual understanding of Kubernetes, someone who has built on top of Kubernetes through operators and controllers or developer tooling.
he candidate would be joining a small team building out the essential developer experience for SEEK’s Internal Developer Platform. They must be able to contribute to this team both to the technical design and directly to the implementation.
Qualifications
- Has created and maintained software in two or more modern software development languages, including Golang
- Deep understanding on using Kubernetes for platform building. This may include experience in the Cloud Native space, e.g. building custom operators other other developer tooling
- Experience in the Cloud Native space, for example service mesh using Istio, GitOps practice via ArgoCD
- Experience with the design, development, support, and maintenance of cloud first applications, preferably AWS
- Strong experience with Design Patterns
- Experience with software observabilities (logging, tracing, monitoring/alerting)
- Experience applying and improving continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to influence and lead technical decisions within the team and across the organisation
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work optimally in an engineering platform space
