We are seeking an experienced frontend Staff Engineer to join the 1-on-1s Team, within the Performance Camp (we group teams into 'camps'). Staff is between Senior and Principal in our technical career path.

As Staff Engineer you will drive the implementation and quality of your team's frontend solution, support and mentor engineers, contribute to innersource projects, and help grow the engineering practice across the camp. While there is a strong element of technical leadership, this is not a people management role.

The 1-on-1s team builds Conversations, a core feature of the Culture Amp platform designed to create clarity, accountability and trust between managers and employees through regular 1-on-1 meetings. Conversations uses patterns backed by people science to guide people into positive habits.

You will

  • Lead the technical vision and drive implementation of React solutions.
  • Work on cross-discipline teams including backend, design, research and product, to turn customer needs into product outcomes.
  • Champion engineering best practices including accessibility, quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Apply and contribute to Culture Amp's unified NextJS-based frontend stack, Kaizen Design System and innersource ecosystem.
  • Maintain stable pipelines to build and deploy applications on our standardised infrastructure.
  • Act as a multiplier as you mentor, coach, and upskill fellow engineers.
  • Take ownership and find the way forward through ambiguity - building products is a landscape of fast-changing needs, and your experience helps you keep calm and bring others with you.

You have

  • Current hands-on experience building and maintaining frontend applications using React+Typescript is a must, and it's ideal if you've used NextJS and Storybook as well.
  • You bring knowledge of web application architecture, performance optimisation, web accessibility, and user-centred design. Experience working with design systems is a bonus.
  • You have coached peers and junior engineers, helping them grow their skills and autonomy.
  • You’ve contributed to shaping internal engineering practices or frameworks, led significant technical initiatives and delivered big projects.
  • You’re comfortable owning the quality of solutions delivered, and know how to build sound SRE and QA habits on your team.
  • You have experience finding a sustainable balance of delivery speed and maintainability.

We believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our success. We're committed to fostering a work environment that truly cares for and develops its people, and creates lasting positive impact. In addition to providing a competitive compensation package, some of the key benefits we offer are:

  • Employee Share Options Program: We empower you to be an owner in Culture Amp and share in our success
  • Programs, coaching, and budgets to help you thrive personally and professionally
  • Access to external providers for mental wellbeing and coaching support to sustain the wellbeing, safety and development of our people
  • Monthly Camper Life Allowance: An automatic allowance paid out each month with your pay - you can spend it however you like to help improve your experience and life outside work
  • Team budgets dedicated to team building activities and connection
  • Intentional quarterly wellbeing pauses: A quarterly company-wide shutdown day in each region to to collectively pause, reset and focus on restoration and rest, without having to tap into individual vacation time
  • Extended year-end breaks: An extended refresh period at the end of year
  • Excellent parental leave and in work support program available from day 1 of joining Culture Amp
  • 5 Social Impact Days a year to make a positive impact on the community outside of work
  • MacBooks for you to do your best & a work from home office budget to spend on setting up your home office
  • Medical insurance coverage for you and your family (Available for US & UK only)

Additionally, we don't just focus on our internal community; we believe in creating a better world of work for all. We're committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with Employee Resource Groups and ally communities in place.

We have a strong commitment to Anti-Racism, and endeavor to lead by example. Every step we make as a business towards anti-racism is another step we can take to support our customers in making a better world (of work). You can see our current commitments to Anti-Racism here.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
