Part of SEEK’s Engineering Platforms group, the Workload-Hosting team is responsible for building and maintaining the foundational infrastructure that powers application workloads across our cloud platforms. We enable internal teams to deploy, scale, and operate services reliably and securely, with minimal friction.
Our mission is to provide a resilient, automated, and developer-friendly hosting environment that supports both legacy and modern workloads. Our team embraces Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), cloud-native tooling, and automation to minimize toil and accelerate delivery.
About the Role:
Part of SEEK’s Engineering Platforms group, we are looking for a highly experienced Staff Platform Engineer to lead the design and evolution of our Kubernetes-based platform infrastructure. This role requires deep technical expertise in Kubernetes internals, a strong foundation in software engineering best practices, and a passion for mentoring junior engineers. You will help shape our platform strategy, build tools and frameworks that improve developer experience, and ensure our systems are secure, reliable, and scalable.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the architecture, development, and optimization of internal platform services built on Kubernetes.
Provide subject matter expertise on Kubernetes internals, including the control plane, networking, scheduling, and extensibility via CRDs and operators.
Build tools and frameworks to improve deployment, monitoring, security, and developer workflows.
Drive adoption of modern infrastructure and software engineering best practices across the platform team and broader engineering org.
Mentor and support junior engineers, particularly in Kubernetes usage, platform reliability, and scalable system design.
Partner closely with the Engineering Manager and Principal Staff Engineer to define and implement platform roadmaps.
Ensure high availability, security, and performance of platform services through automation, observability, and testing.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of our Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
Influence and lead technical decisions within the team and across the organization.
Bring an innovation and improvement mindset—continuously seeking ways to enhance platform capabilities, developer experience, and operational efficiency.
Key Technologies:
Kubernetes (including deep knowledge of internals)
AWS EKS (Elastic Kubernetes Service)
BuildKite (CI/CD)
Datadog, Prometheus (observability)
PagerDuty (incident management)
- Excellent experience in infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps, with demonstrated leadership in large-scale systems.
- In-depth expertise in Kubernetes architecture and ecosystem.
- Strong programming and scripting skills, particularly in Go or Bash.
- Experience building platform components such as Kubernetes operators, admission controllers, or internal developer platforms.
- Proven ability to lead and influence infrastructure and architectural decisions at scale.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Helm).
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to influence and lead technical decisions within the team and across the organization.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A strong innovation and improvement mindset with a drive to continuously enhance systems, processes, and developer experience.
Nice to have:
Contributions to Kubernetes or Kubernetes-related open source projects.
Experience managing multi-tenant Kubernetes clusters in production environments.
Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or similar certifications.
