We are actively seeking a Senior Staff Software Test Engineer/Team Lead to lead our Software Test Engineering team. In this role, you will drive the strategy, development, and execution of automated and manual testing processes for our cutting-edge sequencing and cytoprofiling instrumentation. You will be responsible for leading a team of 7+ software test engineers, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and ensuring that our software solutions meet the highest standards of reliability, scalability, and user experience. This role is perfect for a proactive self-starter who thrives in a hands-on environment and seeks opportunities for growth in both managerial and strategic leadership. This role will report to our Senior Director of Software and will be a daily on-site San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Lead, inspire, and mentor a team of 7+ software test engineers, setting technical direction and fostering a high-performance culture
- Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies and processes for both automated and manual testing of software interfaces for lab instrumentation and cloud software
- Work as part of a team to design, implement, integrate and test the software that enables the development and use of Element’s software ecosystem
- Work with the software systems engineers and stakeholders to test hardware, instrument, cloud, and analysis interfaces and specifications
- Own the creation and maintenance of test documentation, including test plans, protocols, reports, and automation metrics
- Champion a data-driven and efficient approach to software testing, leveraging analytics and KPIs to measure test effectiveness and software quality
- Advocate for and implement best practices in software test engineering, staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends
- Identify key pain points in the end-user experience, proactively influencing software and product design decisions
- Automate test cases as software and interfaces mature, building and defining test integrations for test reporting
- Perform manual test cases as needed, serving to test and confirm software and systems integration, as well as validating user needs and touchpoints
- Assist in troubleshooting problems during development and product sustaining
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Programming, Computer Science or related field
- 7+ years of experience in software testing and quality assurance, with a strong background in test automation and manual testing
- 3+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, leading teams of software test engineers
- Experience with cloud SaaS and PaaS development teams
- Experience with instrumentation development teams
- Experience in working with python, pytest, Selenium, Postman, Linux, go, version control (GitHub, GitLab, BitBucket etc)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a track record of successfully collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience with Playwright, JavaScript, TypeScript, React, gRPC, AWS (preferred)
- Knowledge of sequencing and/or cell biology (preferred)

Job Type:
- Full-time, Exempt
Base Compensation Pay Range:
- $166,000 - $205,000
In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
Please note: Base compensation will depend on multiple factors, including geographic location, qualifications, and experience.
