JOB SUMMARY

Arch LMI Pty Ltd (“Arch LMI”) is part of group that is an APRA-licensed provider of Lenders Mortgage Insurance (“LMI”).  Arch LMI is an Australian-domiciled subsidiary of Arch Financial Holdings Pty Ltd and its ultimate parent is Arch Capital Group Ltd (“ACGL”), a S&P 500 NASDAQ-listed global provider of insurance and reinsurance across a variety of product classes.

The Senior Financial Accountant will be part of a young but rapidly growing team and company. The role will primarily focus on the following:

  • Daily, weekly and monthly, quarterly and annual financial processes;

  • Preparation of statutory and regulatory reports;

  • Preparation of internal management reports;

  • Providing input into financial planning and budgeting processes; and

  • Participating in delivering on short and long term strategies for achieving company growth, profitability and risk quality objectives.

The Senior Financial Accountant will report directly to the Head of Finance of Arch LMI.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Daily, weekly, monthly and annual finance processes (including statutory, regulatory, management and US group reporting).

2. Monitoring and processing financial transactions with Arch LMI’s lending customers and suppliers.

3. Prepare financial statements and regulatory returns as required.

4. Preparing ad-hoc analysis and financial reports as required by the Head of Finance or Finance Manager(s).

5. Undertaking or assisting in preparation of taxation reporting obligations including GST, Stamp Duty and Non Resident Withholding Tax.

6. Participating in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

7. Maintaining and operating an effective internal control environment which complies with current best practice and ensures that Arch LMI meets all relevant compliance obligations including those arising from SOX.  

8. Work with other Arch Capital Group companies to ensure compliance with inter-company arrangements, and to provide other ad-hoc assistance as required.

9. Assist in responding to information requests from internal and external auditors as required.

10. Finance ad-hoc tasks as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Skills:

1. Prior experience and proficiency in Finance function including accounts payable, accounts receivable and journal entry process.

2. Proficiency in Australian GAAP, ideally within a general insurance environment.

3. Demonstrated ability to deliver results under tight deadlines and competing objectives.

4. Strong analytical skills.

5. Strong communication skills in written and verbal formats; ability to address broad range of audiences including senior management, external stakeholders and technical experts.

6. Focus on client and customer service.

7. A willingness/ ability to function as member of a multi-disciplined, international team.

8. Professional maturity and confidence.

9. Bias towards action and self-direction.

10. Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word skills will be valuable.

The following knowledge/experience is highly desirable but not essential:

1. Familiarity with APRA reporting standards for general insurers.

2. US GAAP experience for insurance accounting.

3. Basic knowledge of AASB 17 concepts.

Education & Experience:

1. Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a finance degree (or equivalent) and 3-5 years of relevant experience.

2. Completion or substantial completion of a professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACA) is desirable.
