Role Overview
We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager in Test to lead our System and Performance Test team responsible for validating the scalability, reliability, and performance of Nasuni’s Cloud File Data Services platform.
This role is ideal for a technically strong test engineering leader who thrives in distributed systems environments and wants to build high-impact automation frameworks, mentor engineers, and raise quality standards at scale.
This role is not a purely functional QA position. It requires deep hands-on understanding of automation, performance testing, CI/CD integration, and distributed/cloud systems.
Level & Scope Definition
You will:
- Lead and grow a team of software engineers in test (SDETs and performance engineers)
- Own system, scale, and performance validation strategy for major platform components
- Define automation architecture and integrate it into CI/CD workflows
- Make technical decisions within the system test domain
- Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, DevOps, and Product
This role balances:
- 40–50% technical leadership and architecture
- 50–60% people management and delivery accountability
You will not:
- Own company-wide QA policy
- Operate solely as an individual contributor
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and hire engineers in system and performance testing
- Define and execute test strategies for:
- Distributed systems validation
- Scale and load testing
- Performance benchmarking
- Reliability and resilience validation
- Design and maintain automation frameworks using Python and PyTest
- Integrate system and performance testing into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
- Establish measurable KPIs (defect escape rate, automation coverage, regression trends, performance baselines)
- Guide root cause analysis through logs, metrics, and system diagnostics
- Ensure test environments are scalable, reproducible, and production-representative
- Drive continuous improvement in release readiness and quality engineering practices
- Collaborate with US-based teams to align on roadmap priorities and release goals
Must-Have Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in test automation, performance testing, or distributed systems
- 2+ years of experience leading or managing engineers
- Strong Python development skills
- Experience building automation frameworks using PyTest
- Experience testing distributed or cloud-based systems
- Hands-on experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Strong Linux proficiency
- Experience analyzing logs, system metrics, and performance bottlenecks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in storage, file systems, or data infrastructure
- Familiarity with NFS, CIFS, or SMB protocols
- Experience with virtualization or hypervisor platforms
- Experience building scale testing frameworks
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience leading system characterization and benchmarking efforts
- Experience defining quality KPIs across releases
- Experience scaling automation in high-growth SaaS environments
- Experience mentoring SDETs toward architectural ownership
Experience Guidelines
- 8–12 years total experience in software testing, automation, or distributed systems
- 2–4 years people leadership experience
- 3+ years hands-on Python automation experience
- 3+ years working in cloud or distributed systems environments
