The Role

Lyrebird Health is one of Australia's fastest-growing health technology companies. We turn real clinician-patient conversations into accurate clinical notes, automating the administrative burden that follows every clinical consultation and giving doctors more time with the patients in front of them.

We are hiring a Software Engineer to own and ship high-impact features end to end across the full stack, on a product where the technical and clinical problems are genuinely intertwined, helping shape both what we build and how we build it.

We are looking for someone who is curious, motivated, and cares deeply about the impact of their work. You thrive with a clear outcome and the freedom to figure out the path. You move with urgency, know how to prioritise, and hold yourself and the people around you to a high standard.

About Us

Lyrebird Health is transforming the quality and accessibility of healthcare by automating clinicians' most time-consuming tasks.

Thousands of clinicians use Lyrebird every day in environments where accuracy, safety, and time matter deeply. They trust us to deliver a fast, reliable, and secure experience. Everything we build is grounded in earning trust, reducing cognitive load, and delivering meaningful impact at scale.

What you'll do

  • Own and ship features end to end across the full stack, from the first scoping conversation with product through to a deployment that clinicians are using the same day.
  • Build and improve LLM pipelines and the document generation system using TypeScript, Svelte, Node.js, LangChain, and LangFuse, on a product where reliability and accuracy genuinely matter.
  • Help shape how we build, contributing to technical decisions, code quality standards, and the engineering culture as the team grows around you.
  • Uphold best practices across testing, CI/CD, and the release process, and hold others to the same standard through direct, useful code review.

You'll be a good fit if you have

  • A track record of shipping production-grade code professionally.
  • Deep experience with TypeScript across both frontend and backend.
  • Solid understanding of APIs, cloud infrastructure, and modern dev practices.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.
  • Experience in healthcare, regulated environments, or ML/LLM tooling is a plus.
  • Experience using Claude Code or other agentic coding assistants, with clear-eyed awareness of their limitations.

What You'll Work With

  • Frontend: TypeScript, Svelte
  • Backend: TypeScript, Node.js, SvelteKit
  • Infra: AWS
  • Tooling: GitHub, Terraform, LangChain, LangFuse, LangSmith, LiteLLM
  • Bonus: Python, CI/CD, DevOps exposure

Why this matters

Paperwork is the connective tissue of the entire healthcare system. The quality of a referral determines how quickly a patient sees a specialist. The accuracy of a clinical note shapes the care that follows. At Lyrebird, the software you ship is inside real consultations, used by thousands of clinicians every day. The features you build directly reduce administrative burden, speed up documentation, and improve the quality of care patients receive. That is a direct line from your code to the patient in the room.

We are building a team that reflects the diversity of the people who benefit from our work. We want Lyrebird to be a place where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. If you are from an underrepresented background in tech, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every requirement.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
