We're REA
With bold and ambitious goals, REA Group  is changing the way the world experiences property. No matter where you're at on your property journey, we're here to help with every step - whether that's finding or financing your next home.
Our people are the key to our success. At the heart of everything we do, is a thriving culture centred around high performance and care. We are purpose driven and collaborative, which drives innovation and our ability to make a real impact. As such, we’re proud to have been named in Australia’s “Top 5” Best Workplaces two years in a row, as well as being recognised as a Best Workplace for Women.

Where the team fits in

This role sits within the Product & Audience group within the Media Tribe and partners closely with Product Management, Design, and Architecture to deliver customer and business outcomes at pace. The Media Extensions team is an onshore squad with 2 Engineers based in Sydney and 5 Engineers based in Melbourne.

We are an engineering squad and our purpose is to empower REA’s extension products (Audience Maximiser & Audience Extensions) to run reliably at scale by building and stewarding the services that automate campaign creation and optimisation, creative preview, and cross‑DSP reporting.

We have a vision of building a resilient, self‑service platform where campaigns, creatives, and reporting flow end‑to‑end with minimal manual touch, observable by default, and safe to evolve through continuous delivery and infrastructure‑as‑code.

What the role is all about

  • Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of 7 other engineers, an Engineering Manager, and a Senior Product Manager to deliver impactful outcomes for REA’s core extension products
  • Design, implement, test, and deploy software solutions across a range of technologies and platforms, working end-to-end across UI, backend, and API development
  • Integrate with and support a wide variety of external DSPs to enable campaign creation, optimisation, and reporting
  • Partner with multiple stakeholder teams to successfully deliver and evolve core extension products
  • Actively learn, share knowledge, and contribute to the broader engineering community through collaboration, mentoring, and continuous improvement
  • Work closely with Product to understand business priorities, communicate technical options and trade-offs, provide progress updates, and contribute ideas and solutions

Who we’re looking for

  • Passion for being part of a high-performing, highly collaborative team that delivers great outcomes while having fun along the way
  • Solid knowledge of modern web technologies and strong engineering practices
  • Experience building products that scale and perform reliably in production environments
  • Strong skills in TypeScript, Node.js, and React
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, designers, and domain experts (e.g. programmatic traders, ad-tech specialists)
  • Interest in working closely with external vendors and partners, including DSPs such as Meta, The Trade Desk, Google DV360, and LinkedIn
  • Strong communication skills with a proactive, team-first mindset
  • A solutions-focused approach to complex or ambiguous problems
  • Enjoyment of working in a fast-paced, agile environment and adapting to change

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
