Job Title: Software Engineer
Location: (including hybrid): Melbourne, Australia (2-3 days in our WeWork Office)
Salary: $100,000 - $180,000 (depending on level) + superannuation
Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.
Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.
From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.
Kaluza is currently in an exciting growth phase, undergoing the next phase of our international expansion in Melbourne to further reinforce our capabilities as a globally distributed energy platform.
Our goal is to build a self-sufficient and empowered team here on the ground in Australia. We’re well on our way, but until we get there we still have some reliances on our UK team. Being comfortable working flexibly for a portion of your working week to cover time zones is required.
Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?
You'll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at an extraordinary scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness and by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.
You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform is built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.
Here at Kaluza we are 100% committed to providing a reliable platform for our clients. As part of that commitment, our engineering ownership model is “you build it, you own it.” Our engineering teams have a high sense of ownership and support their critical services both in and out of normal working hours. After hours support is assigned according to a paid roster.
What will I be doing?
We very much believe in sharing both responsibilities and the successes in our team, so you’ll be exposed to many aspects of our portfolio of work from the get go. Our teams build, test, deploy and support a range of services that manage the customer lifecycle and metering data for use across the Kaluza platform, with a diverse set of underlying technologies. We don’t expect you to arrive with experience of all of them, but you can expect to learn about and get hands-on with typically TypeScript development, GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Serverless, Dynamo or Postgres, AWS and DataDog. As a team, we currently follow agile approaches to development, making use of tools like Miro, Confluence, Jira and Trello for workshops, documentation, task management, etc.
You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle from rapid prototyping to helping us scope our work and backlog refinement to developing, configuring and deploying services, to monitoring and improving our operational health. You will join our support rota to triage platform issues and respond to incidents; Kaluza itself has a great learning culture, so you can also expect to be dedicating some of your time to active learning and development.
There are several interesting challenges to solve including:
- How to abstract and reduce complexity across multiple clients and countries
- Scale systems to process millions of data points through complex processes
- Build extensible systems that allow for customizability
Kaluza is currently in an exciting growth phase, undergoing the next phase of our international expansion.. This will further reinforce our capabilities as a globally distributed energy platform and means that you would be one of the first Kaluza employees on the ground in Australia, joining our existing engineering teams!
