Build and operate backend services for Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph ingestion platform. Responsibilities include developing Java and Spring Boot services, managing Kafka-based pipelines and DynamoDB-style stores, participating in on-call support, improving observability and performance, enforcing permission-aware data handling, contributing to architecture decisions, and collaborating across teams. The role requires ownership of production features from design through deployment, testing, monitoring, incident response, and documentation.
Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
This team is the engineering team behind Teamwork Graph platform, the system that ingests, and serves content across 40+ third-party sources (GitHub, Slack, Google Drive, and more). We own the ingestion pipelines and intelligence to select the right time and source to ingest or refresh the third-party data in Teamwork Graph.
As a software engineer, you'll own meaningful components of this pipeline end-to-end - designing, building, and operating production services that thousands of engineers and millions of users depend on daily. You'll work alongside ingestion, and data-ops specialists, contributing to a system where correctness, permission-awareness, and low-latency retrieval all matter. This is a hands-on delivery role with room to grow: you'll be trusted to drive projects to completion with moderate guidance while sharpening your architectural instincts across the different systems.
At Atlassian, we strive to design equitable, explainable, and competitive compensation programs. We follow consistent hiring practices and account for each candidate's skills, knowledge, and experience when setting base pay within the range.
This role may also be eligible for benefits, bonuses, commissions, and equity.

- Build & operate features and services for ingesting third-party data - owning features from design through production.
- Deliver production-quality code in Java/Spring Boot backed, Kafka/streaming event bus, and DynamoDB-style entity stores, with strong automated test coverage.
- Participate in the on-call rotation - respond to incidents, execute and improve runbooks, triage ingestion failures, and handle DLQ cleanup and replay.
- Contribute to design discussions and reviews - write and review ADRs/RFCs, participate in the weekly architecture sync, and make sound trade-offs on schema changes, and pipeline optimazations.
- Ensure permission-awareness and data quality - uphold the invariant that search results and graph entities respect access controls end-to-end.
- Monitor and improve operational health - build dashboards and alerting, optimize throughput, and troubleshoot performance/scaling issues in thrid-party data storage.
- Collaborate cross-team with upstream and adjacent teams to land features that span domain boundaries.
- Document your work - keep runbooks, design docs, and knowledge-share material current so the team scales its knowledge, not just its code.

- Comfort with cloud infrastructure (AWS), containerization, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Demonstrated ownership: has driven features from design to production with automated testing, monitoring, and on-call support.
- Clear written and verbal communication; can author design docs and collaborate across teams.
Nice to have

- Exposure to permission/ACL propagation, multi-tenancy, or data-residency/region-routing concerns.
- Prior work integrating third-party data sources (GitHub, Slack, Google Drive) or building connector/ingestion frameworks.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene
Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
