Do Work That Matters

Leidos Australia delivers IT and airborne solutions that protect and advance the Australian way of life.  Our 2000 local experts, backed by our global experience and network of partners, are working to solve the world’s toughest challenges in government, intelligence, defence, aviation, border protection and health markets.

Your New Role and Responsibilities

Leidos Australia is seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer to join our GEOSPACES program, delivering advanced national security technology solutions in a secure, high-compliance environment.

In this role, you will ensure the availability, performance, capacity, and reliability of critical production systems, combining technical expertise in systems administration with practical, hands-on problem-solving. Operating across large-scale, fault-tolerant infrastructure, you will help maintain operational excellence and support mission-critical capabilities in a secure, highly regulated environment.

  • Drive operational stability by applying software engineering practices to infrastructure and operations challenges.

  • Provide Level 2 and Level 3 incident response, ensuring fast recovery, thorough RCA, and preventative measures to reduce recurring issues.

  • Implement and manage monitoring, alerting and logging systems, maintaining deep visibility into performance and tracking SLOs and SLIs.

  • Manage and provision infrastructure using IaC practices, applying configuration management tools and scripting for consistency and repeatability.

  • Improve CI/CD pipelines and release processes, working closely with development teams to enable smooth, reliable deployments.

What You’ll Bring to Make An Impact

  • Experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, bringing a thoughtful, collaborative approach to solving operational challenges and supporting complex incident investigations.

  • Comfortable creating meaningful automation using Python, Go or Bash to support teams and streamline workflows.

  • Strong, dependable background in Linux/UNIX administration, with a supportive approach to troubleshooting in intricate enterprise environments.

  • Hands‑on experience using IaC and configuration tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet or Chef to build consistency and empower teams.

  • Experience nurturing reliable virtualised (VMware) or cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), working closely with developers through CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI.

Don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application.  We’re most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.

Due to the nature of the role, you must be an Australian Citizen who holds an active TSPV security clearance; accompanied by the ability to be successful for a DISA/OSA.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
