Where the team fits in
The Listing Visualisation squad is part of the Listings, Visualisation & Content portfolio within the Consumer Product & Experience group. This portfolio focuses on enhancing the search and listing experiences on realestate.com.au, supported by platform technologies that deliver scalable, high‑quality user experiences.
You would be a part of shaping the property search and listing experience, with a particular focus on helping consumers understand properties visually, through photography, video, 3D tours and future visualization experiences.
What the role is all about
As a Senior Engineer in the Listing Visualisation team, you’ll join a cross-functional, multi-disciplined team to deliver user-facing experiences and solve real needs for millions of users. You’ll be involved in the full development lifecycle: implementing features, building systems, resolving issues, and maintaining services, with the guidance and support of your team.
You’ll work closely with product, design, and other engineers to translate ideas into technical solutions. Experience and interest in working across the stack and in multiple languages and technologies is key to deliver features through to the glass.
You’ll contribute to and lead technical discussions and ongoing improvements to our experiences, striving for high quality, maintainable solutions You’re expected to keep learning by following technical trends and best practices, positively influencing team culture, and helping build collaborative, high-performing squads.
What you’ll be doing
- Write, test, and document high-quality code aligned with REA Engineering standards and practices.
- Contributing to initiatives with a strategic focus and leading epics.
- Apply engineering skills to design and implement well-crafted, scalable solutions.
- Solving complex technical problems in ways that enable other team members to learn and extend.
- Supporting the Engineering Manager in setting the technical direction and practices and upskilling the
- team’s capabilities.
- Connecting with engineers across the portfolio facing similar technical challenges to connect solution
- architecture with broader tech strategy.
- Contribute to squad ways of working and help foster a culture of technical excellence and continuous
- learning through coaching and mentoring of others.
- Work closely with product, design, and other stakeholders to design and build solutions serving user
- needs, advising on feasibility and risk.
- Own and enhance existing products and services, including bug fixes, feature improvements and
- reduction in technical debt.
- Supporting production systems, including being part of the day pager on call roster.
Who we’re looking for
- Proficient in one or more of our core programming languages - Scala, Java, Kotlin, Typescript.
- Highly skilled in modern software engineering techniques such as clean-code, functional programming, test-driven development, micro-services, and continuous delivery.
- Proven ability to design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable experiences, APIs, and supporting services that support large user bases
- Experience and interest in working across the stack – frontend through to backend systems and data pipelines.
- Experience contributing to and leading the delivery of product features—from implementation through deployment and operational support.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to work effectively in cross-functional teams and clearly articulate technical concepts.
- Comfortable working in an agile, fast-paced environment, with attention to quality and reliability.
- Experience coaching and mentoring junior peers.
- Experience owning and maintaining production services, including leading the resolution of operational issues and incidents. Commitment to the “you build it, you run it” philosophy—owning services from development to production.
- Experience with dev-ops tools and techniques, particularly Docker, Git, GCP, AWS, and CI/CD.
- Experience developing mobile applications or with data engineering is a plus.
