The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology, and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.
As a Senior Software Engineer in our Automation and Optimisation team, part of the broader Identity Engineering function, you will report directly to the COE Lead and play a key role in shaping our automation strategy, contributing to product and feature design, and leading the end-to-end software engineering lifecycle. You will take technical ownership of critical identity platforms and services such as SailPoint, CyberArk, and PingID, ensuring their security, performance, and reliability. In this role, you will act as a hands-on subject-matter expert, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and resilient solutions that align with our strategic goals.

- Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills on programming language including python, Java, Java script, .Net.
- Constantly think creatively and breaking boundaries to solve complex technical problems
- Work well in teams and have strong collaboration skills in driving continuous improved initiatives
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals and best practices
- Take ownership of issues and follow through with end-to-end resolution of issues
- Imbue a true DevSecOps mindset and approach. You build it, you secure it, you test it, and you run it
- Work with various application teams to ensure the stability and security of the cloud platform
- Have natural drive to educate, communicate and positively influence various stakeholder groups
- Knowledge on cloud especially AWS is an added advantage
- Have a great understanding of software delivery practices and lifecycles in Agile methodologies
Tech skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but having significant experience and exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team
- Demonstrated experience developing applications using modern programming languages and frameworks, including C#, .NET/.NET Core, Python, and Java.
- Sound knowledge of Microservices architecture and RESTful APIs
- Excellent debugging skills with ability to solve complex technical issues in .NET
- Experience with workflow orchestration platforms such as Temporal for building reliable, scalable distributed systems
- Experience operating and troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with Infrastructure as code and automating manual tasks
- Mentoring and coaching capabilities, able to influence practices and mindsets in the crew
- Develop, lead, and deploy CI/CD strategies
- CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, TeamCity, Artifactory, Octopus Deploy
- Logging & monitoring: CloudWatch, AppDynamics, Splunk, Grafana and Prometheus knowledge are desirable
- Automating repetitive tasks using Python, shell scripting, PowerShell etc.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems across the CI/CD toolchain
