The Bigger Picture

At Andromeda Robotics, we’re not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships; we’re building it. Abi is the first emotionally intelligent humanoid companion robot, designed to bring care, conversation, and joy to the people who need it most. Backed by tier-1 investors and with customers already deploying Abi across aged care and healthcare, we’re scaling fast, and we’re doing it with an engineering-first culture that’s obsessed with pushing the limits of what’s possible.

This is a rare moment to join: we’re post-technical validation, pre-ubiquity, and building out the team that will take Abi from early access to global scale.

Our Values
  • Empathy - Kindness and compassion are at the heart of everything we do.
  • Play - Play sharpens focus. It keeps us curious, fast and obsessed with the craft.
  • Never Settle- A relentless ambition, bias toward action, and uncomfortable levels of curiosity.
  • Tenacity - Tenacious under pressure, we assume chaos and stay in motion to adapt and progress.
  • Unity- Different minds. Shared mission. No passengers.
The Role

We're creating a wellbeing insights platform. Our robots generate transcripts and perception data from resident interactions.

The opportunity: turn this into insights that genuinely help aged care staff support their residents better. We need someone who has the judgement to hone in on what's useful for customers and end-users, build it, and prove it's valuable.

You'll be the engineering counterpart to our Senior Data Scientist, building the product layer that makes their insights valuable in the real world. You'll own the product serving stack from day one: how we deliver data science insights to users, all technical decisions on product architecture, and what gets shipped. You'll have MLOps support from ML engineers and infrastructure support from our DevOps/CloudOps team, freeing you to focus on building valuable product:

Key Responsibilities
  • Product layer over data science: Transform models and analyses into interfaces, APIs, and integrations care managers use daily
  • Full stack delivery: Frontend for care staff, backend services, infrastructure for security and scale. Whatever blocks value, you unblock
  • Real world adoption: Build integrations with existing aged care systems, not isolated dashboards
  • Customer driven development: Work directly with care homes to understand workflows and ship what matters
  • Pragmatic architecture: Ship MVPs that can evolve without rewrites; make smart trade-offs under ambiguity
  • Daily data science collaboration: Partner closely to shape deliverables and feed back customer needs

You'll significantly shape product direction working alongside the Chief Product Officer, Chief Commercial Officer, Head of Machine Learning, customers, end users. Your voice matters in what we build.

The Reality

This is 0 to 1 work. Requirements evolve. Customers and executives want different things. You'll wear multiple hats: care home visits, API development, infrastructure decisions. Quick wins matter. You'll ship pragmatically whilst understanding your technical debt.

You'll be building the product layer largely independently, but you're surrounded by exceptional technical talent working in other areas: solution architects, cloud engineers, AI engineers, autonomous systems engineers, spacecraft engineers, machine learning engineers, software engineers. When you need deep technical expertise outside your domain, you can lean on people who've solved hard problems at scale.

You'll Thrive If You
  • Measure success by customer outcomes, not technical sophistication
  • Energise in ambiguity rather than freeze
  • Collaborate naturally across technical and non technical stakeholders
  • Ship pragmatically without painting yourself into corners
  • Take initiative and drive work forward independently
  • Genuinely care about improving vulnerable people's lives

RequirementsIdeally You Have
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent shipping experience
  • 5+ years building customer facing products; you’ve seen multiple product lifecycles building 0 to 1 products where you helped define value
  • Full stack competence: frontend, backend, infrastructure, databases
  • Strong fundamentals: clean architecture, testing, security, and maintainability
  • Self starter who works independently: You'll identify what needs building, make decisions, and execute without waiting for direction
  • Intellectually curious: You dig into problems, ask questions, and connect dots across domains
  • Comfortable making calls: You own technical decisions and have significant input on product direction
  • Melbourne based, five days on site
Bonus Points
  • Healthcare or privacy sensitive domains
  • Advising on and implementing tools and technologies where we don't currently have coverage
  • Productionising ML and data science outputs

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
