Job Description:

dentsu is a network designed for what’s next, helping clients predict and plan for disruptive future opportunities and create new paths to growth in a sustainable economy. As a unified organisation, dentsu brings together deep expertise across media, creative and customer experience to deliver integrated solutions that drive meaningful progress for clients and society.

Our data and technology team is responsible for building and maintaining industry leading solutions to support marketing, media buying, creative, and customer experience teams to create more meaningful impact.

As Senior Software Engineer, you’ll join our Cloud and Platforms Engineering team on a new programme of work to build a portfolio of AI-driven marketing products that that will deliver value for our clients. The ideal candidate will have expert knowledge of software architecture and delivery, being able to take ownership of a portfolio of work, a platform or a set of related services, and be accountable for it running in production. This includes setting the patterns and standards that other engineers build within and deciding what is built once and shared rather than repeatedly and bespoke.

Much of what the team builds must work both on dentsu infrastructure and inside a client’s own cloud, so portability, security and cost are design considerations rather than afterthoughts. You will own reliability, security posture and cloud cost across their estate, mentors the engineers around them, and contributes to hiring as the team grows.

This is a hands-on role. The seniority is in scope and judgement, not in distance from the code, and there will not be a team in place from day one, so the role leads by building.

This is a permanent role, working on a hybrid model in Melbourne or Sydney.

Core responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of cloud native applications, products and services from concept through to production.
  • Define engineering standards, architecture patterns and technical approaches that support scalability, reliability and performance.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across projects, helping teams solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Drive platform reliability, observability, security and cloud optimisation initiatives across the engineering environment.
  • Partner with stakeholders across engineering, data science and the broader business to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.

A bit about you:

  • Demonstrated experience leading the delivery of significant software, platform or cloud engineering initiatives.
  • Strong architecture and systems design capability, with deep expertise in at least one major cloud platform.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, influencing technical direction and driving engineering best practices.
  • Ability to balance hands-on software development with broader ownership of technical outcomes and platform strategy.
  • Proven track record delivering scalable, production-grade products that solve real business problems.

What’s in it for you:

  • Real flexibility to work when and where you feel most productive with our ‘Be the Best You’ policy which includes a $250 contribution to your home office set up
  • The opportunity to give back with dedicated volunteer leave and our whole-company event, One Day for Change
  • 5 weeks annual leave after 2 years of service and 3 whole company Wellness days off per year for you to switch off and take your day, your way
  • Career Development and Learning & Development opportunities, including access to our global online dentsu University

Become a champion for meaningful progress:

Our diverse and inclusive culture enables our employees to bring their whole selves to work and be proud of doing so. For us, this is the foundation for great innovation which, in turn, generates better outcomes for our people, partners and communities. This is why we encourage applications from people with disabilities, and of all ages, nationalities, backgrounds and cultures.

If you want to belong to a one global network where opportunities are limitless – we look forward to welcoming you.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
