About Ailo
Ailo is Australia's most innovative property management platform, purpose-built to break the industry free from legacy tech. We connect property managers, investors, renters, and tradespeople on a single, real-time platform where money moves instantly, workflows are automated, and every stakeholder gets a better experience.
We're not a legacy system. We're the future of property management, and payments are at the heart of it.
The scale you'd be owning
We are now a top 10 customer of one of the world's largest card processing networks. We're processing at $3.6B annualised and have processed $5.4B since inception, and we're only getting started. In payment volume terms, we now sit as the 5th largest merchant in Australia when benchmarked against major grocery retailers, behind only Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, and IGA.
This is the engine you'd be responsible for scaling — commercially and technically.
The role
We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to own and drive our Money Management value stream. You're a commercial product leader with deep payments expertise.
You'll sit at the intersection of technical product leadership and commercial strategy. You'll make the call on where to invest in infrastructure versus new capability, how every architectural decision connects back to Ailo's revenue model and monetisation strategy. You'll build and defend business cases for infrastructure investment, negotiate with external payment vendors, and ensure that our payments engine is not just reliable — it's a source of commercial advantage. You'll be the decisive voice in the room on everything money-related. Leadership will lean on your judgement — not just on what to build, but on what it means for the business.
What you'll be responsible for
In your first 6 to 12 months, success looks like: a clear and defensible payments roadmap that leadership has bought into, a defined commercial improvement to how we process or monetise payments, and a set of frameworks that make fraud, risk, and vendor decisions faster and more consistent across the team.
Commercial product leadership
- Own the commercial outcomes of the Money Management value stream, with a clear line of sight to revenue, margin, and monetisation strategy.
- Own the roadmap for Ailo's payments infrastructure with an eye on sustainable growth: volume, reliability, and margin.
- Build and defend business cases for infrastructure investment, making trade-offs between new capability and commercial priorities with rigour and clarity.
- Identify and evaluate new payment channels and rails to grow payments revenue, expand optionality, and reduce concentration risk.
- Work with engineering on architectural decisions that keep us competitive at scale, with a clear understanding of their commercial implications.
- Lead the product strategy around fraud detection, prevention, and response, building frameworks for risk-informed decision making that keep us safe without slowing down product velocity.
- Own relationships with external payment vendors and processors, negotiating commercially and holding partners accountable to performance.
External relationships
- Own relationships with external payment vendors and processors, negotiating commercially and holding partners accountable to performance.
Who you are
You're a commercial product leader with deep payments expertise. You've owned payments or financial services product at significant scale, in a fintech, neobank, marketplace, or payments-adjacent business. You don't just understand card processing, bank transfers, fraud vectors, and regulation. You've made hard calls in each of those areas, you can connect those decisions to business outcomes, and you can speak to what you learned.
You think commercially, not just technically. You understand how technical decisions connect to revenue and margin. You can walk into a room with a CFO or a payment vendor and hold your own on the numbers. You know how to build a business case that gets funded and a monetisation argument that lands with leadership.
You're comfortable in ambiguity. Ailo is a fast-moving, high-growth company. The roadmap will shift. Priorities will evolve. You don't wait for perfect information; you make good decisions with what you have, and you revisit them as you learn more.
You think in systems. You can hold multiple competing inputs from customers, data, stakeholders, and regulation, and synthesise them into clear direction. You don't just solve the immediate problem; you design for the second and third-order effects.
You're not just AI-literate, you're AI-ahead. The world is changing at an unprecedented pace and you're not watching from the sidelines. You've moved well beyond curiosity; you're actively using AI tools to do better work, move faster, and think more clearly across discovery, documentation, analysis, and communication. You don't vibe code. You make a real difference with the tools at your disposal, and you're constantly pushing the boundary of what's possible with them.
You build structure while moving fast. You're not someone who waits for perfect conditions, but you're also not someone who mistakes motion for progress. You bring clarity to ambiguous situations, create frameworks where there are none, and help the people around you move with more confidence because of it. You're equally comfortable going deep into the weeds with an engineer, presenting a strategic recommendation to the exec team, or negotiating a commercial arrangement with a payment vendor. Outcomes matter to you, and so does the way you get there.
You lead through influence. You don't have a direct line over engineering or design, but you earn trust through rigour, clarity, and follow-through. Internal and external stakeholders, from developers to auditors to payment network representatives, feel confident when you're running point.
What you'll bring
- 5+ years in product management, with at least 3 years owning a payments, financial services, or fintech product at significant scale.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen — you've built business cases, managed vendor relationships, and connected product decisions to revenue outcomes.
- Experience navigating payment provider and vendor relationships, with the ability to negotiate and hold external partners accountable.
- Track record of building products in a regulated environment. You know what it means to ship compliantly and quickly.
- Strong data literacy. You're comfortable pulling metrics, defining success, and using data to challenge assumptions.
- Experience working with fraud, risk, or compliance teams as a close product partner.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. You can write a tight one-pager for the exec team and flip seamlessly into a detailed spec with engineering.
Bonus points if you bring
- Experience in proptech, real estate, or property management.
- Familiarity with the Australian payments regulatory landscape (RBA, ASIC, NPP/PayTo, AUSTRAC).
- Exposure to real-time payments infrastructure.
Why Ailo
- Mission that matters. We're genuinely changing the property management industry for the better, for investors, renters, and the property managers who serve them.
- Real scale, real impact. You'd be joining at an inflection point. Our payments volume is compounding fast and the decisions you make will shape the next phase of growth.
- Modern, collaborative culture. We've built a team that's genuinely good at what they do and enjoys working together. No legacy baggage in our culture either.
- Melbourne-based with a hybrid setup.
If you've scaled payments products before and are excited about applying that expertise to one of Australia's fastest-growing proptech platforms, we'd love to hear from you.
