Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

The Opportunity

Climatech Group is a leading Australian mechanical services contractor delivering the design, construction and commissioning of complex HVAC and mechanical systems across NSW and Victoria. Our Data Centre Division is engaged on some of the largest hyperscale data centre campuses ever built in Sydney, delivering mission-critical cooling infrastructure for tier-one clients and head contractors.

With a multi-year forward pipeline of secured data centre work, we're looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead our design function — the senior technical authority who owns design delivery from concept through, detailed design, prefabrication and construction support.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading the mechanical design of hyperscale data centre projects — chilled water plant, large-bore pipework, air-side systems and controls integration.
• Owning design delivery through all staged design milestones (concept, 60%, 90%, IFC / LOD300–LOD500) against demanding project programs.
• Acting as Climatech's senior technical voice in design reviews and coordination workshops with clients, head contractors, consultants and certifiers.
• Preparing and approving design deliverables — drawings, calculations, equipment selections, technical submittals and formal design review responses.
• Driving design for prefabrication, working hand-in-hand with our prefabrication, procurement and construction teams to maximise off-site manufacture.
• Leading, mentoring and growing a team of mechanical design engineers and BIM/drafting resources across multiple concurrent projects.
• Supporting construction and commissioning teams through to Integrated Systems Testing and handover.

What You'll Bring

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years' experience in mechanical/HVAC design, including time in a senior or lead design role.
• Experience designing mechanical services for data centres or other mission-critical facilities — hyperscale experience highly regarded. Large commercial, Industrial and health sector experience is also highly regarded.
• Deep technical knowledge of chilled water systems, central plant, air-side design and BMS/controls integration.
• Experience delivering staged design packages under D&C or head contract models, including formal design review processes.
• Working knowledge of Australian Standards, the NCC, and ideally Uptime Institute tier and redundancy concepts (N+1, 2N).
• Confident written communication — you can hold your own in contractual design correspondence as comfortably as a coordination workshop.
• CPEng / Professional Engineer registration (NSW/VIC) is highly regarded but not essential.
