Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
Atlassian is looking for a Senior Marketing Data Scientist to join our audience segmentation team. In this role, you will work closely with stakeholders daily who are both familiar and unfamiliar with Atlassian's customer data to define and build audiences for their desired product marketing messages (ex: cross-sell, feature release, etc.) and event marketing campaigns. Additionally, you will work to define and build SSOT tables for org-wide utilization for messaging prospects/customers.
The ideal candidate should have experience:

  • Working with stakeholders who are either familiar or unfamiliar with an organization's customer data (ex: attributes defining customers in an RDBMS)
  • Conducting data discovery and curating SSOT documentation for disparate data sources (ex: new tables or columns)
  • Strong data manipulation skills - advanced proficiency in SparkSQL or similar syntax

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with stakeholders across the org (Data Engineering, Product, MarTech, & Marketing) to solve business problems for Atlassian's complex customer segmentation data
  • Conduct in-depth data discovery and apply technical expertise to recommend and curate the ideal customer segmentation for customer messaging (marketing & non-marketing)
  • Identify and document gaps in our database and implement recommended fixes with Data Engineering to improve org-wide data hygiene
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve new and existing audience data pipelines/tables for experimentation, query compute time, dynamic emails, and in-product messages
  • Help identify opportunities for campaign optimization and marketing personalization (ex: query optimization, audience overlap, etc.) to influence decision-making through insights and recommendations
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to influence and execute strategy decisions for critical company messaging (ex: Pricing, Product Release, Legal Comms)

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree
  • 5+ years of experience in analytics mining data for insights and recommendations
  • 5+ years of experience with relational databases and SQL query languages (Python is a plus)
  • Advanced proficiency with SparkSQL or similar syntax
  • Business Intelligence experience (Tableau, Looker, etc.)
  • Experience managing projects end-to-end, including task definition, work estimation, and status reporting
  • Clear, effective verbal and written communication skills including the ability to actively listen, problem-solve, and communicate across technical and non-technical business teams
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-changing environments
  • A willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods as needed
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products like Confluence and Jira is a plus

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
