About the Role

The Business Services group ensures our clients’ success by adding value to every aspect of their business through the provision of world-class strategic advisory and compliance services. BDO's business advisers understand growth and success in the Australian and international markets and focus on helping our clients understand their business and provide practical strategies to help them succeed.

This role has a strong focus on tax consulting and tax advisory services in addition to general accounting and tax compliance. The successful candidate will work closely with senior leaders and known experts in their fields of expertise, servicing a diverse client base including; large private family groups, family offices, start-ups and complex SME businesses and their owners.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing a client base directly with clients, working alongside partners

  • Assisting with strategic business discussions with clients and delivering on strategic advisory services

  • Assist in management of the operational responsibilities of the Business Services team;  

  • Ability to manage and lead staff across a diverse client base.

  • Manage and lead staff across a diverse client base, ensuring collaboration and high-quality outcomes

  • Review and manage the delivery of complex financial statements and consolidated financial statements and Income Tax Returns prepared by team members

  • Deliver targeted tax advisory services across income tax, CGT, Division 7A, and estate planning.

  • Provide tax planning strategies including trust profit distribution planning, Division 7A management, and Small Business CGT concessions.

  • Conducting due diligence reviews of financial statements, tax returns, and FBT returns

  • Oversee preparation and review of financial accounts and income tax returns for companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals.

  • Assist in setting budgets for specific jobs and explaining parameters and scope to team

  • Has external networks and market presence

  • Undertake ad-hoc duties as required from time to time.

Qualifications & Experience required:

  • Prior accounting experience in an accounting firm environment

  • CA/CPA qualified

  • Strong background in tax advisory and consulting, particularly income tax, CGT, and Division 7A.

  • Experience with tax planning for trusts, CGT rollovers, and estate planning.

  • General consulting exposure to a range of clients.

  • Ability to manage complex private client groups and SMEs.

  • Proven leadership and people management skills

  • Strong commercial skills with genuine levels of enquiries about wider business issues and application to client situations
