The Role:

This is an opportunity to take on a role within a rapidly growing global software investor. As Senior Manager, Business Development, you will be responsible for sourcing and managing a pipeline across an entire vertical or large sub-vertical, identifying, researching, and evaluating software companies that align with Banyan’s investment criteria. Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development, you will proactively engage business owners through email, phone, and conferences to build trusted relationships and drive qualified opportunities into the M&A pipeline.

You will collaborate cross-functionally to share insights, refine sourcing strategies, and leverage Banyan’s tools to improve effectiveness. This role requires strong CRM discipline, ensuring accurate tracking and reporting of key metrics in Salesforce and other systems, as well as the ability to lead pipeline reviews, identify bottlenecks, and ensure smooth handoffs to M&A. If you love the sales process, are curious about business and M&A, and enjoy learning about new industries, join us!

  • Thrives in a metrics-driven environment, leverages data to make informed decisions, and consistently meets or exceeds agreed-upon KPIs.
  • Strong written communication and the ability to build genuine, two-way conversations with business owners and internal stakeholders.
  • A natural relationship-builder who earns trust with founders and business owners, often over long sales cycles.
  • A growth mindset matched with an entrepreneurial spirit, the motivation to succeed, and a willingness to coach and mentor junior team members.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with senior leaders about pipeline status, market intelligence, and M&A insights.
  • A degree in Finance, Business, or a related field and/or significant experience in software sales or M&A.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently source and advance opportunities that progress to due diligence or close, with strategic judgment to translate learnings into improved outreach and market coverage.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
