The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our Data Science & Machine Learning team. Reporting to the Lead Machine Learning Engineer, you will facilitate the adoption and application of scientific principles to business processes and decisions to improve the quality and performance of various business units.

Your new role

A day in your new role may look a bit like this:

  • Translate the decision-making needs and timeframes of internal business unit stakeholders into data-driven, analytically tractable and scientifically provable problems

  • Implement fit-for-purpose analytics tools and infrastructure that will be adopted by end users

  • Work within an agile team of data scientists, data analysts, and portfolio delivery leads to build and operationalise models, quantify and analyse model performance, and oversee model refreshing requirements

  • Take ownership of, and deliver enterprise grade machine learning training and inference pipelines

  • Engineer robust, reliable and modular software in data science business solutions within actionable timeframes

  • In conjunction with the portfolio delivery leads prioritise projects and tech-debt activities across the portfolio adapting to ever-changing business environment

  • Provide analytics thought leadership to the business and align thinking to business strategy

About you

To be successful in this Senior Machine Learning Engineer role you will have solid experience in a similar role within Financial Services/Regulated Industry. You will also have;

  • Programming experience. Strong Python essential, but additional language experience highly desirable – SQL, React, etc.

  • Strong DevOps experience working with Docker, Docker Compose, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, microservice architectures; you have created Docker images, combined containers into a service and deployed services in CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience with bash scripting

  • Created data APIs with Flask, FastAPI, Django or similar

  • Strong experience working with databases, having defined schemas or migrating databases

  • Some front-end/web experience: basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but frameworks also welcome

  • Experience of (Azure) cloud native tooling

  • Experience in Databricks

  • Good understanding of the data science lifecycle, from data exploration and model development to implementation, integration, deployment and support

  • Ability to apply your technical problem solving to real world problems and be able prioritise the business case over a perfect solution

  • Data wrangling experience in a large organisation with multiple systems and data sources

  • Proven experience delivering beneficial projects in an agile work environment

  • Strong project management, collaboration and communication skills

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s qualifications preferably in Engineering, Science or Mathematical discipline
