About the team .
This role reports to the R&D Manager, and can be based in either Melbourne or Ballarat with frequent travel between the two locations. Travel to different sites for meetings and factory trials is also required
This is a 2-year fixed term position.

  • As Technical Project Lead, lead product development activities to deliver projects from conception to commercial production.
  • Turn consumer trends and insights into key product attributes, leveraging manufacturing capabilities internally and at co-manufacturers.
  • Identify new opportunities for recipe, formulation and process improvements.
  • Keep abreast of business priorities, issues, and those of the food industry and convey this information to project teams and ensure taken into consideration in consumer-led product design and development.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement bringing outside-in thinking into proactive concept development that accelerates ANZ innovation pipeline development.
  • Build relationships internally within R&D (sensory, regulatory, nutrition, packaging) and McCain (quality, manufacturing, marketing), and external (suppliers, co-manufacturers).


About you .
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Masters Degree in Food Science or other related science disciplines.


Experience:

  • 5+ years of technical and professional research and development experience in consumer goods (preferably in food)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, commercially-driven food company
  • Strong ingredient knowledge in area of batter and coatings technology for different reconstitution methods (preferred)
  • Experience in product performance and stewardship is desirable
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processes and experience of working in this environment
  • Deep knowledge of food safety and HACCP processes. Experience with relevant Acts/ Legal Requirements and Standards (e.g. Food Manufacturing Standards, FSANZ) and incorporating into product design.
