Based in Melbourne, the Senior Commercial & Pricing Analyst is responsible for providing strategic commercial and pricing analysis and insights to support decision-making and drive profitability in the retail energy business. This role will support the development of efficient pricing strategies, maintain/create pricing/financial models to support business decision making, analyse market and competitor trends, and collaborate with various teams to optimise costs and develop new products.

With respect, integrity and honesty, you will:

Lead strategic commercial analysis including market and competitor analysis.

Lead engagement of key stakeholders to drive problem framing, option development and recommendations against the overall strategic context of the organisation, with the ability to work through complexity, ambiguity and uncertainty.

Pricing Strategy and Analysis:

  • Support in the development of efficient pricing strategies and lead the optimisation and development of pricing models to ensure cost recovery and revenue optimisation;
  • Provide strategic analysis and direction for pricing events, including price changes and new market offers;
  • Utilise and improve the Gross Margin Forecast tool for portfolio and cohort specific reporting, ensuring consistency with assumptions from Customer and Finance teams;
  • Produce monthly reports to highlight key trends; and
  • Lead the enhancement of scenario analysis capabilities.
  • Other ad hoc pricing related analysis as required.

Commercial Insights and Product Development:

  • Work within the Strategy team to provide commercial insights and analysis for decision-making;
  • Support the Commercial Strategy Manager in scenario modelling, and ongoing financial forecasting requirements;
  • Conduct analysis on usage and consumption patterns, carbon and green products, and distributed energy resources; and
  • Work closely with the Product team to ensure accurate and efficient pricing for existing and new products.

Risk Management and Growth:

  • Support in the operationalisation of hedging products for electricity, gas, and green certificates;
  • Maximise business response to opportunities and threats during the energy market transition; and
  • Support retail business growth ambitions and provide insights for investment decisions.

What you’ll bring

Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:

  • Experience in building financial or pricing models;
  • Energy pricing experience within an energy retailer or network business will be highly regarded;
  • Proven experience in analysing data to derive meaningful commercial insights and provide actionable recommendations;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills in written, visual and verbal format;
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interact with senior management and connect with all parts of the business;
  • Tenacity to challenge the status quo and bring logic to problem-solving;
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and experience that demonstrates intellectual curiosity and continuous learning;
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications & Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, finance, or a related technical field or equivalent.
