About R/GA

R/GA is a creative innovation studio. We harness design and technology to create more valuable experiences for people and brands. We are a  company of reinvention, we evolve as technology reshapes the world, and we help our clients do the same.
Our team is a mix of specialists working at the intersection of brand design, product and experience design, campaign and content design. We work hybridly both in the studio and online across Australia and APAC, bringing together the leading minds of our specialist crafts to solve any problem.

About the role

This role is open to senior brand designers or design directors. At R/GA, your role is to design brands and experiences that move culture and improve people’s lives. This is our ethos. We create brands that people talk about, share and influence popular culture. We improve people’s lives by creating experiences that fuel positive impact in big or small ways. And we foster a culture that powers creative excellence.
Senior brand designers/Design Directors are motivated thinkers and makers, approaching projects with rational and innovative mindsets, looking for ways to fuse visual, verbal, and behavioral design into their creative explorations be it for a new brand concept or digital experience. They are comfortable unpacking a problem, unlearning old ways of working to upskill for the future, questioning the brief, leading by example, taking direction and pushing back. But they're equally comfortable making others feel comfortable: leading projects into uncharted creative territories without blinking—always mindful not just of how it looks, but how it works, especially when representing the work to clients.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to and support the creative director in the ideation, articulation and execution of original strategic, conceptual and systematic brand design
  • Lead by example with brave innovative work that sets the standard for design excellence, relentlessly developing and elevating the standard of craft across the team including logo design, typography, colour, iconography, illustration, UI, photography and art direction.
  • Collaborate with passion across disciplines including with experience designers, technologists and strategists, inspiring exceptional work.
  • Execute design work to ensure final deliverables meet R/GA standards and client expectations
  • Can build client presentations and present confidently, being able to give clients full confidence in our work and respectfully respond to live feedback
  • Be an ambassador for R/GA and the design team, supporting internal initiatives and championing an inclusive and equitable environment

The Ideal Person Has:

  • A strong portfolio showcasing proven skills in the areas of conceptual, and systematic graphic design across a range of branding and digital design projects.
  • Is a strategic creative who loves to solve problems (big and small)
  • You understand and respect the rules of design, but know how to bend and break them to create innovative solutions.
  • Impeccable craft with an eye for detail
  • Enjoys mentoring team members, constantly raising the creative bar
  • Is a fresh thinker who embraces challenges and new methods of thinking
  • Is self-motivated with a positive attitude and strong communications skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity, always proactively looking to solve the design challenge at hand.
  • 4+ years across brand design, art direction and digital design
  • Formal design qualification
  • Proficiency in Figma and the Adobe creative suite
  • Experience working with design systems and component libraries
  • Experience experimenting with generative AI
  • Experience with motion or basic prototyping is a bonus

Why you should work here

  • Hybrid working with a minimum of two days in our Surry Hills (Sydney) or  Cremorne (Melbourne) office
  • Flexible hours allowing you to design a workday that fits your lifestyle
  • Wellbeing and learning resources and budget to support your health and wellness
  • Supportive culture – collaborative, inclusive, and people-first

Our Values:
Our purpose is to create a more human future. We lead by our six values:
1. We’re kind humans. We’re not “resources”, we’re real people. We treat everyone with integrity and respect, and leave our egos in the elevator.
2. We’re outsiders. We go where others won’t to uncover hidden opportunities. We challenge tradition and ignore the status quo. We don’t care what everyone else is doing, only what we’re doing next.

  1. We’re better together. None of us are as good as all of us. Brilliant ideas can come from anywhere, but more often than not ours come from everyone. We thrive on our differences and actively collaborate across regions, time zones, and cultures.
  2. We’re changemakers. We choose to embrace change. We don’t just react to today; we act on tomorrow. We want to change the world (and we’re not afraid of changing ourselves in the process).
  3. We’re radical optimists. We’re in love with the possibility, but never blind to the reality. We can tease out the potential in any problem, and once we find the silver lining, we’ll get to work mining it.
  4. We’re always learning. We stay relentlessly curious, forever looking for new ways of doing things. We know there’s no such thing as perfection, and that’s fine, because the journey is just as important as the destination.

Diversity:

No-matter who you are, where you’re from, who you love, follow in faith, disability (or superpower) status, ethnicity or the gender you identify with (please do tell us your pronouns), you're welcome at R/GA. If you have any requests or requirements to support you throughout any interview process, please do let us know.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
