Senior Associate 2+ years - Energy & Resources

We are seeking an outstanding Senior Associate to join our high performing Energy & Resources practice.

The role

We are seeking an outstanding Senior Associate to join our Energy & Resources Team. Working with Partner Susan Taylor, you will play a key part in advising clients on complex regulatory and commercial matters directly linked to the renewable energy transformation.

You will have demonstrated experience in the Australian energy sector, with a focus on energy regulatory frameworks. You will be excited by the challenge of solving complex legal and regulatory problems for market-recognised clients at the forefront of the energy transition. You will be capable of working across all functional levels of the energy sector (retail, distribution, transmission and generation), or demonstrate the capacity to build on your existing experience in at least some of these sectors. 

You will also undertake energy-focused commercial work, including drafting and negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs), supply agreements, connection agreements and BESS offtake agreements.

In this role, you will have exposure to a mix of clients across Australia, including ASX listed public companies, private companies, state owned entities and regulators You will be comfortable to work both autonomously and as part of an engaged and enthusiastic team.

The successful candidate will also be comfortable mentoring junior lawyers and project managing matters from initial stages through to completion.

Our team is currently known as one of the leading energy regulatory teams in Australia -- you will be a key part of making our team even stronger. Our team is based in Melbourne and Canberra but we are happy to work with suitable candidates from any Australian location.

Key Skills & Experience:

• 5+ years post qualification experience.

• Experience in the energy sector, particularly electricity and gas markets, either in-house or in private practice.

• Thrives in detail-orientated work.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• A strong work ethic coupled with a willingness to learn.

• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills (including written skills) which will be required for building client relationships and maintaining a positive team environment.
