This role is an Australia-based, fully work-from-home position, with access to co-working spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Job Description

The Senior AI Modeller at Montu will play a pivotal role in the development and deployment of cutting-edge AI-driven products. They will leverage their expertise in machine learning, including Large Language Models (LLMs), to design, build, and optimise AI solutions that directly contribute to our roadmap.

This involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, implementing rapid experimentation frameworks, conducting rigorous evaluations, and staying attuned to business opportunities. The work will be grounded in scientific and software engineering best practices, whilst also providing mentorship and coaching to other ML modellers.

What You’ll Be Doing:

AI/ML Product Development:

• Design, build, and train machine learning models, including those leveraging Large Language Models(LLMs), for AI product development.
• Emphasise development within shared environments and version control systems (e.g., Git).
• Collaborate closely with Machine Learning Engineers (MLEs) from inception to ensure successful deployment of AI/ML products, providing models and necessary support.

Data Analysis and Preparation

• Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets for model training and evaluation, including data for LLM applications
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns and insights relevant to AI product development, using shared data resources.

Rapid Experimentation and Evaluation

• Implement rapid experimentation frameworks to test and iterate on AI/ML models, using shared experimentation platforms (e.g., ClearML).
• Conduct rigorous evaluations and statistical analysis to measure performance and impact, always adhering to scientific best practices and ensuring thorough documentation.

Business Alignment and Product Opportunity Recognition

• Stay closely aligned with the business to understand needs and identify opportunities for AI product
• development.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business problems and product ideas into AI/ML projects, ensuring shared understanding and documentation.

Coaching and Mentoring

• Provide guidance and coaching to other ML modellers, fostering their professional growth and development in the context of AI product creation.
• Share knowledge and best practices within the team, especially regarding LLMs, advanced AI techniques, and collaborative development practices.

Research and Innovation

• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML, including LLMs, and apply them to product development, sharing research findings and code.

Collaboration and Communication

• Work closely with product managers, data engineers, software developers, and Machine Learning Engineers (MLEs), as well as other business stakeholders, using shared communication and project management tools.
• Communicate findings and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, focusing on the value and impact of AI products.

Qualifications

Technical Expertise:

• Proven experience developing machine learning models in Python.
• Strong background in Large Language Models (LLMs) and related technologies (e.g., transformers, fine-tuning).
• Hands-on experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis, experimentation, and model evaluation.
• Familiarity with cloud computing (GCP AI/ML services).

• Ability to communicate complex AI concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a results-driven approach.
• Experience mentoring and coaching junior team members.
