Job Summary

As a Security Engineering – Senior Engineer, you are an expert in the Information, Engineering and Cyber Security domains, applying your extensive knowledge in security technologies, cloud and corporate networks to shape the security controls required within solution designs (both people, process and technical) and identify, communicate and help treat corresponding security risks.
Through your strong knowledge of existing and emerging technology, you are able deliver a superior security and network experience for our consumers. You do this by drawing on your deep levels of cyber security and engineering knowledge and experience to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment in Network and IT specific technology domains.
You play a pivotal role in shaping our technology strategy and protecting Telstra’s assets, acting as a trusted adviser to our people, teams, cyber, engineering and DevOps leaders to build our cyber capability.Job DescriptionWho We AreWe're an iconic Aussie brand with a global footprint. Focus of the Role
The purpose of this role within the Network and Infrastructure Security team is to provide specialist design, development and deployment of security platforms and solutions for Telstra. This includes developing technology roadmaps that aligns with Security strategy to deliver capability solutions that increase Telstra’s overall Cyber Security posture

  • Provide expertise: Serve as the SME and design authority for end‑to‑end systems and processes throughout their lifecycle.
  • Align with strategy: Ensure solutions align with product and technology roadmaps and leverage emerging technologies.
  • Design solutions: Translate complex architectures and business requirements into actionable platform‑specific designs.
  • Implement solutions: Deliver high‑quality end‑to‑end systems, integrating multiple technologies and resolving component‑level issues.
  • Manage stakeholders: Set expectations, drive change, and negotiate effectively across diverse business environments.
  • Manage vendors: Oversee vendor performance and delivery with support from vendor management teams.
  • Handle risks: Identify risks and issues, recommend mitigations, and manage contingency plans to closure.
  • Lifecycle management: Plan for system capacity, performance, and availability; manage budgets and drive cost reduction through simplification and new technology.
  • Knowledge management: Stay updated on emerging technologies and contribute to organizational knowledge and process improvement.
  • Compliance: Follow all relevant standards and processes, ensuring deliverables meet quality benchmarks.
  • Operational support: Work on incident and problem tickets, identify root causes, implement permanent fixes, and participate in on‑call rotations.
About You
  • Experience with Netskope, ZTNA, Illumio, Micro‑Segmentation, Firewalling, Routing, Switching, IPS/IDS.
  • Strong understanding of Cisco FTD, Firewalls, VPN, Proxy Gateways.
  • Knowledge of security protocols: IP, TCP, UDP, IPsec, SSL, HTTP/S, FTP, SSH.
  • Familiar with BGP (multiple VRs/VRFs), VLANs, MPLS, VPLS.
  • Expertise in SDN / NFV concepts.
  • Understanding of Cloud Security across Azure, GCP, and AWS.
  • Proficient in Virtualisation (VMware) and Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure) solutions.
  • Knowledge of VMware product portfolio: vCloud, vSphere, vCenter, vRealize Operations, Horizon View, VSAN, NSX.
  • Experience with datacentre standards, design, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Skilled in data centre planning, monitoring/alarming, and backup processes.

  • Support Documentation (Level 1, 2, 3)
  • Strong experience in preparing technical standards and architectural deliverables.
  • Operational Processes & Governance
  • Knowledge of Telstra change management processes.
  • Familiarity with the ORC process.
  • Understanding of security operations principles: incident management, problem management, on‑call support.
