The role requires a strong foundation in remote sensing, attention to detail, sound operational judgment, and the ability to manage several time sensitive activities simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review customer collection orders to confirm priorities, areas of interest, required imaging parameters, delivery timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Develop and optimize image collection plans based on customer requirements, collection geometry, satellite capacity, imaging constraints, and expected image quality.
  • Enter, update, monitor, and maintain collection orders within the applicable tasking or mission planning systems.
  • Track collection execution and determine whether customer orders are progressing in accordance with contractual service level agreements.
  • Monitor collection results, product availability, and applicable image quality indicators.
  • Identify unsuccessful collections, delayed orders, quality concerns, capacity conflicts, and other conditions that may affect customer requirements.
  • Triage technical and procedural issues, document their operational impact, and initiate the appropriate resolution or escalation process.
  • Coordinate with flight operations regarding satellite status, operational constraints, planned activities, and conditions that may affect scheduled collections.
  • Collaborate with the customer to clarify requirements, communicate collection status, manage routine expectations, and address operational questions.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, monthly, or contractually required reports on collection success, order status, product quality, service level agreement performance, and collection yield.
  • Maintain accurate collection metrics, statistics, logs, decision records, and supporting operational documentation.
  • Analyze satellite collection data to identify patterns, correlations, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve collection performance.
  • Support the development and testing of automated workflows, reports, dashboards, and other tools that improve recurring operational routines.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for missed collections, quality issues, and service level agreement exceptions.
  • Follow approved operating procedures, quality controls, escalation paths, and customer communication protocols.
  • Provide recommendations to the Senior Satellite Tasking Project Manager regarding tasking priorities, schedule adjustments, operational risks, and process improvements.
  • Coordinate with internal product, engineering, processing, and delivery teams when technical support or cross functional action is required.
  • Support operational emergencies, urgent collection requests, and customer requirements outside normal business hours when required.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in remote sensing, geospatial science, geography, geographic information systems, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in remote sensing, satellite imagery, geospatial operations, collection management, mission planning, imagery analysis, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of remote sensing fundamentals, satellite imagery, image processing, collection geometry, and factors affecting image quality.
  • Project management or operational coordination experience, including task prioritization, schedule tracking, issue management, and status reporting. Project Management Professional certification or equivalent project management credential preferred.
  • Proficiency with GIS tools such as QGIS or comparable geospatial software.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into clear operational actions.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a data driven approach to decision making.
  • Ability to triage, prioritize, and execute several independent and time sensitive tasks simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate operational records and metrics.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with customers, flight operations, technical teams, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Full professional proficiency in Japanese and English, both written and spoken.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
