Safety Manager

Partner with leaders across the site to build capability, reduce critical risks, and create a world-class manufacturing environment where safety is simply the way we work.

Lead a safety culture where every person goes home safe every day.

About the Role

Join Essity as a Safety Manager and play a pivotal role in creating a safe, healthy, and high-performing manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced safety professional who is passionate about driving compliance, reducing risk, and embedding a strong safety culture across our operations.

Reporting to the Site Manager, you will lead the delivery of Essity's Springvale RESH (Risk, Environment, Health & Safety) strategy while helping shape the future of the site. Working closely with leaders and operators, you will build capability, strengthen safety culture, reduce critical risks, and ensure systems remain simple, effective, and compliant.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role where you'll spend significant time on the manufacturing floor coaching leaders, engaging employees, understanding how work is performed, and helping teams identify and eliminate risk. Success in this role will come from building strong relationships, influencing others, and proactively delivering practical solutions - not simply enforcing compliance.

As a member of the site leadership team, you'll contribute to continuous improvement, operational excellence, and a culture that genuinely cares for its people. You'll have the opportunity to shape the role, influence the site's direction, and leave a lasting legacy through the capability and confidence you build in others.

We're seeking a safety professional with manufacturing experience, a strong understanding of relevant safety legislation, and proven expertise in safety management systems, including ISO 14001.

What You Will Do

  • Deliver the site RESH plan in line with Essity's global RESH strategy.

  • Lead initiatives that reduce critical safety risks and improve workplace safety outcomes.

  • Manage internal audits and maintain compliance with ISO 45001 and regulatory requirements.

  • Facilitate JSAs, incident investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Oversee site Governance deliverables relating to legislated safety requirements.

  • Manage all compliance elements of safety, some of which include maintaining the Site Capability matrix, organising training, organising D&A testing, running weekly safety meetings and running monthly OHS Committee meetings.

  • Analyse safety performance data and provide insights to improve outcomes, including monthly reporting.

  • Drive employee engagement through safety leadership programs and coaching initiatives.

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve safety procedures and management systems.

  • Benchmark safety practices and identify opportunities to strengthen site performance.

Who You Are

You are a hands-on safety leader with experience in a manufacturing environment and a passion for creating safe workplaces. You bring strong knowledge of OHS legislation, safety management systems, and audit processes, along with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.

You will bring:

  • 5+ years' experience in occupational health and safety within manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation and regulatory requirements.

  • Experience managing OHS systems and maintaining ISO 45001 compliance.

  • Internal audit experience and a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret safety data and trends.

  • Excellent coaching, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • A Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent experience.

What We Can Offer You

Our purpose, Breaking Barriers to Well-Being, provides meaning to everything we do. Join us to improve well-being for people and drive positive change for society and the environment.

At Essity, you'll feel valued, empowered to grow, and challenged to achieve business results in a collaborative and open atmosphere.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
