The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Safety Management System (SMS) Risk Management Specialist to join our Product and Service Safety (P&SS) team in Brisbane, supporting the ongoing development of BDA's Product and Service SMS. The role partners with key stakeholders to strengthen risk articulation, proactive hazard management, and continuous improvement in product and service safety across BDA.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working within a regulated environment and a dynamic, technically complex organisation. The role is based in Brisbane, with alternative locations and remote work options considered for the right candidate; occasional local and interstate travel may be required.

Required Experience
- Sound knowledge of risk management as a critical element of Safety Management Systems within a commercial or military aviation environment.
- Experience leading the development and implementation of safety risk management strategies within a commercial or military aviation environment.
- Competence with risk management tools and processes (e.g., BowTie XP) and safety perform.ance monitoring.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders (including regulators, industry bodies, and internal teams) to resolve safety-related issues.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of ICAO Annex 19 and DASA regulatory frameworks.
- Basic understanding of BowTie risk management; knowledge in airspace operations and Safety Management Systems.
- Defence Aircrew or aviation experience.
Key Organisational Accountabilities
- Safety risk management framework maturation and capability uplift
- Mature BDA's existing safety risk management framework by building internal capability through coaching, development, and tailored training.
- Lead the development and implementation of risk management solutions, including recommending corrective actions and ensuring controls are effective.
- Develop and implement customised hazard identification and risk analysis tools specific to Product and Service Safety.
- Facilitate safety risk workshops across new programs and capabilities, including Supply Chain, Product Support, and Training Services.
- Enterprise risk integration, reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with the enterprise risk specialist to support aggregation of Product & Service Safety risk and inform. senior leadership on principal Product & Service Safety risk.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (including regulators and industry bodies) to identify and mitigate safety and airworthiness issues.
- Exhibit strong communication and interpersonal skills, providing clear guidance on technical safety matters.
- Assurance and control effectiveness
- Collaborate with Quality teams to link Product and Service Safety critical control effectiveness activities to assurance activities.
- SMS framework and regulatory compliance
- Contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of BDA's SMS framework, policies, and procedures.
- Address safety and regulatory inquiries, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.
