With the recent passing of the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Amendment Bill 2024 (AML/CTF) there are now expanded compliance requirements for law firms. Generally, this involves ensuring, and reporting on, the Firms compliance with AML/CTF obligations. This is where you come in!
You'll be a part of our Risk and Compliance team based in Sydney or Melbourne and report to our Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As the Risk and Compliance Lead - AML/CTF, you will act as Allens' Compliance Officer as defined in the relevant AML/CTF legislation and ensuing rules and guidance.
As a Risk and Compliance Lead you will:
- Manage and oversee AML/CTF compliance activities.
- Develop and implement AML/CTF programs.
- Report to senior management on AML/CTF risks and controls.
- Ensure adherence to AML/CTF regulations and guidelines.
- Provide advice and strategic direction in designing and continuously improving AML/CTF compliance activities.
- Manage a team responsible for client-related compliance tasks.
- Engage with key client relationships and external stakeholders, including AUSTRAC, external auditors, and industry peers.
- Provide training and support to Partners and staff on AML/CTF and compliance matters.

About you
You will have:
- Strong knowledge of AML regulations and compliance requirements, including an understanding of the latest legislative changes.
- Experience managing AML compliance activities in Australia or similar regulatory regimes overseas.
- Proven track record of managing effective compliance activities in large organisations.
- Experience working with AML-related platforms and systems.
- A history of performing complex risk assessments and understanding resulting required controls.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex regulations.
- Proactive interest in cultivating a culture of risk and compliance.
- Ability to communicate complex issues clearly to executive and Board audiences.
- Experience influencing diverse groups through presentations and documents.
- A desire to learn, grow, network, mentor others.
