This role is ideal for a mid-level career Project Manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys building strong customer relationships, and can confidently coordinate people, resources, suppliers, and stakeholders to achieve project outcomes. You'll take ownership of projects from handover through to customer acceptance, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

We are seeking a hands-on project leader who is comfortable working autonomously, navigating ambiguity, and driving results through collaboration rather than technical expertise alone. Experience delivering large-scale projects in industries such as food processing, manufacturing, construction, mining, utilities, infrastructure, or related sectors will be highly regarded.

This role will be remotely based in the Melbourne area, with a preference for candidates located near a major airport to support travel requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the contract between TOMRA and customers, ensuring project delivery within time, quality, cost, and customer satisfaction goals
  • Oversee project processes, ensuring documentation, reporting, and adherence to timelines
  • Develop project plans, including resource requirements, and lead a project team to deliver contracted outcomes
  • Manage contract scope, variations, and monitor progress, keeping all stakeholders informed
  • Communicate project plans, progress, and timing with customers, managing their expectations and responsibilities
  • Monitor milestones and ensure project tasks are completed and documented throughout the lifecycle
  • Consult with experts to manage compliance risks and engage third parties as needed
  • Proactively manage cash flow and financial goals
  • Document lessons learned and perform root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions
  • Deliver project handovers and compliance documentation
  • Conduct project reviews with department leaders and project teams, evaluating risk, budget, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Promote a “Safety First” culture throughout the company, our customers, and our industry

Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering or a related discipline is desirable but not essential
  • 3-5 years of project management experience leading complex, customer-facing projects from initiation through delivery
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders across customers, suppliers, contractors, and cross-functional teams
  • Strong project planning, risk management, budgeting, and project delivery expertise in industries such as manufacturing, food processing, mining, construction, industrial equipment, engineering services, or similar
  • Strong understanding of compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, make decisions, and deliver outcomes in remote and dynamic operating environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence at all levels
  • Commercial acumen and a customer-focused approach
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines, manage ambiguity, and solve complex problems
  • Ability to work in both an open office setting and on industrial customer worksites
  • Project Management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) are advantageous but not required
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain a valid passport, have an unrestricted driver's licence in the country of residence, and be able to travel domestically up to 30%

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
