About Performio:
Performio is the last ICM software you’ll ever need. It allows you to manage incentive compensation complexity and change over the long run by combining a structured plan builder and flexible data management, with a partner who will make you a customer for life.
Our people are highly-motivated and engaged professionals with a clear set of values and behaviors. We prove these values matter to us by living them each day. This makes Performio both a great place to work and a great company to do business with.
But a great team alone is not sufficient to win. We have solved the fundamental issue widespread in our industry—overly-rigid applications that cannot adapt to your needs, or overly-flexible ones that become impossible to maintain over time. Only Performio allows you to manage incentive compensation complexity and change over the long run by combining a structured plan builder and flexible data management. The component-based plan builder makes it easier to understand, change, and self-manage than traditional formula or rules-based solutions. Our ability to Import data from any source, in any format, and perform in-app data transformations, eliminate the pain of external processing and provides end-to-end data visibility. The combination of these two functions, allows us to deliver more powerful reporting and insights. And while every vendor says they are a partner, we truly are one. We not only get your implementation right the first time, we enable you and give you the autonomy and control to make changes year after year. And unlike most, we support every part of your unique configuration. Performio is a partner that will make you a customer for life.
We have a global customer base across Australia, Asia, Europe, and the US in 25+ industries that includes many well-known companies like Toll Brothers, Abbott Labs, News Corp, Johnson & Johnson, Nikon, and Uber Freight.
The opportunity
Each year sales reps around the world collectively earn over $300 billion in commissions for their efforts. Despite this scale, calculating, communicating and reporting on commissions is a painful challenge for the majority of companies. Incentive Compensation Management (ICM) software seeks to solve this problem, but the legacy ICM vendors have failed to deliver on their promises and businesses and sales teams remain frustrated with their sales comp programs.
At Performio, we see this as an incredible opportunity—not just to improve ICM, but to build the best ICM solution in the world. One that empowers sales teams, makes life easier for compensation admins, and handles complexity with ease. We have an empowered, influential Experience Design practice that has executive leadership’s support to bring this vision to life.
With roots as a scrappy, Melbourne-founded and bootstrapped start-up, we are now a mature, international growth stage company, with over 17 years under our belt and more than 75% year on year growth. We are investing in product development to help support that growth—and that’s where you come in.
As a Product Designer, you will play a critical role in reimagining our product from a user-centric perspective. You’ll work closely with your Senior and Principal product design peers, Product Managers and Engineers to design, develop and deliver customer-centric solutions. No aspect of the design process is off-limits: you will contribute to research as well as work with engineering to finesse our UI. While this role is execution-focused, you will have the opportunity to learn, grow and contribute to strategic initiatives with mentorship from seasoned designers.
In a typical week, you might have:
- Worked alongside a Senior Product Designer to translate research insights into intuitive workflows
- Designed and prototyped user flows, wireframes and UI components in Figma
- Participated in customer research to deepen your understanding of user needs
- Collaborated with Product and Engineering to implement designs and refine interactions
- Designed a new component for our token-based Design System—‘Electric’
You’ll be part of our Experience Design team based in Melbourne, Australia and initially report directly to the Senior Director of Experience Design.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing user-centric solutions. Sketch out thoughtful solutions to tricky customer problems, get feedback and refine them into polished UI.
- Understanding customer needs. Dive headfirst into our domain, product and customer needs to develop solutions that users will love.
- Partnering with product peers. Working with Product Managers and Engineers to ensure what’s shipped meets both customer and business needs.
- Supporting Senior Designers. Work alongside senior peers to contribute to all aspects of the design process, from research to high fidelity execution.
- Maintaining and contributing to our design system. Develop expertise in design tokens, create documentation, design and refine our UI components.
- Caring about the details. Sweat the small stuff that helps our product improve—from the copy and microinteractions to helping get data that shapes our decision-making.
What we’re looking for
- Confidence and experience—you’ve held a few different design roles, know how to operate effectively in a cross functional product team and get things done
- Familiarity with software design and/or designing for complex, data-heavy applications
- Experience and willingness to work across all phases of product development, from insight to execution and producing relevant design artefacts (e.g. wireframes, prototypes, detailed UI, journey maps)
- Strong understanding of UX principles, UI and interaction patterns and best practices
- Experience working with token-based design systems (e.g. Figma Tokens)
- Desire to challenge the status quo and maturity to know when to compromise
- An eye for and commitment to working in the detail, from pixels to microcopy
- Respect for and ability to collaborate well with team members from all disciplines
- Bias to action and desire to refine your craft

Don’t check every box in our job description? That’s ok! As the Harvard Business Review points out, research conducted by Hewlett Packard shows that men typically apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, while women and those from marginalized groups tend to only apply when they feel they meet 100%. If you think you have what it takes, but don’t necessarily meet all of the requirements listed in the job description, please still reach out. We’d love to have a conversation to see if you could be a great fit!
