Product Design Lead

We are looking for a hands-on Design Lead to bring clarity, momentum, and focus to our product design work.

This role suits someone who is comfortable working in ambiguous environments and collaborating closely with founders and executive leaders to unpack early ideas, shape them into clear problems, and guide the team toward meaningful outcomes.

You will balance leading and doing, providing structure where needed while staying close to the work.

About us

Lyrebird Health is transforming the quality and accessibility of healthcare by automating clinicians’ most time-consuming tasks. Thousands of clinicians across many disciplines already use Lyrebird — and that number is growing every day.

They trust us to deliver a fast, reliable, and secure experience. We value that trust above all else and strive to earn it while continuing to amaze our users.

What You Will do:

  • Lead and support a small team of product designers
  • Work closely with founders and the executive team to unpack and shape early-stage ideas without judgement
  • Translate high-level direction into clear, actionable design work
  • Guide discovery, prioritisation, and delivery in a pragmatic way
  • Design alongside the team when needed, from exploration through to execution
  • Collaborate closely with product and engineering partners
  • Develop a strong understanding of user workflows, particularly in a clinical contextIntroduce lightweight structure to improve focus and reduce rework

What We Are Looking For:

  • Senior product designer or design lead with experience in small teams
  • Comfortable leading while remaining hands-on
  • Strong at sense-making, prioritisation, and sequencing work
  • Curious, open-minded, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Willing to deeply understand the problem domain and users
  • Practical and outcome-focused approach to design

At Lyrebird, you don’t just write code — we help shape the future of the human experience.

If you want to pioneer, to create, and to see your work touch lives directly, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re building a team that reflects the diversity of the people who’ll benefit from our work. We want Lyrebird to be a place where everyone feels safe, supported, and able to thrive. If you’re from an underrepresented background in tech, we especially encourage you to apply — even if you don’t meet every single requirement.

What you need to know about the Melbourne Tech Scene

Home to 650 biotech companies, 10 major research institutes and nine universities, Melbourne is among one of the top cities for biotech. In fact, some of the greatest medical advancements were conceptualized and developed here, including Symex Lab's "lab-on-a-chip" solution that monitors hormones to predict ovulation for conception, and Denteric's vaccine for periodontal gum disease. Yet, the thousands of people working in the city's healthtech sector are just getting started, to say nothing of the tech advancements across all other sectors.
